Mr Fat,
You can fix a hole in the gas tank with a product like expoxy. I had multiple pin holes on the drivers side under the strap. I used gas tank epoxy from advanced auto. Its been on there for the past 7 years and has not leaked.

I had a shop down here in Mokena do mine on my cutlass. Could find the info if your interested.

The hole has JB Weld gas tank sealer on it now. And it's not under the straps, it's dead center on the tank. It's not dripping, but you can see a damp ring around the JB weld patch. Will the epoxy only work for pin holes? I'm not sure how big the hole is????

eh i would just buy a new tank and while your down there upgrade the pump and hotwire.

yeah that one says its 21 gallons hmmm. i dont know i would look around- some people have patched them and it lasted- and some people have had worse luck- i would just drop it and get new.

SPECTRA PREMIUM Part # GM307C

major difference is it doesnt have the polyethylene pump slosh tank that GM has which tends to shake loose , they have a welded in metal "dog dish " for the fuel pump bucket and lots of baffles

i beleive the owner of spectra is a member here with the same name and owns a turbo car

try contacting them (should also have a web site) and see if theres a distributor near you to save the shipping .

picked up mine from my local recycler who carries their line and, saved shipping and then some since i got it at cost.

besides ebay rock auto also carries them thru the net

I got my replacement tank from Advanced Auto about 3 years ago. I don’t know if they still have them available, but I only paid $127 with a new filler neck attached. If I remember correctly you could get a cheaper one without the filler neck attached, but for $20 why bother. The tank was absolutely the same… size, shape, baffling. Nothing like a nice new shiny tank under the TR.

I know the company’s name is stamped on the back of the tank, maybe even a part number (can’t remember). If you want I could look for you tonight. I think I even still have my receipt.

Checked with local Advance Auto and they only get the above mentioned Spectra's now...$248.88, $20 cheaper w/no neck..Going to order one from Spectra myself..leaking at the neck.. :(

if its just leaking at the neck and not a rust issue its very repairable with epoxy.

or if tank is drained and purged of all gas and fumes it can be repaired as it was , sweated back with a propane torch and some solder , but youll have to pull it out to ensure its free of fuel and vapors, do not attempt !!! seek a professional

I got mine from Rock Auto about 6 months ago. Price was less than anywhere else I could find...like HALF compared to local napa.

I was very nervous about the baffle issue but it worked out fine at the track, no starvation....

Mine started leaking around the filler neck when it only had about 10,000 miles on it. JB weld worked fine and has held up for probably about 6 years now.

Follow Up

Just for information sake. I pulled my receipt for my tank last night and purchased the tank not at Advanced Auto but at AutoZone. AutoZone still carries the tank I purchased but now is charging $243.99 (according to their web site). Back in 2001 I paid $130.37 and that includes the 6% CT sales tax. The tank was $122.99.

try putting a full tank in and see if it leaks. make sure you are not imagining things. if its leaking try holding a candle under the leak to melt the tank so it seals or weld it. trust me it works but only with a full tank.
