Yeah my top section wasn't nearly as bad as yours. I cut out some new 16ga sheet steel, bent it to shape, tucked it in and then pulled it tight with a unispotter - then I just tacked it in and sealed it with POR15 silver. The black stuff is structural adhesive used to seal up the ends. It will eventually be used to glue and seal the new weatherstripping channels into place before final finish but I haven't gotten there yet since the rest of the car is really picking up steam and its not really a necessity at this point. The work you did is nice. Doesn't really matter how you get there as long as the end result serves the purpose and looks good doing it!!

end justifies the means

Understand that, been watching others work on there cars and makes you thank twice!
but when a project get interuped, you forget how it came apart. we need a section for just how too's some body paints a part then they could post it as a how to prep what they used what worked what didn't cost where they got the parts the restoration thread is ok but it sometime leave out the important parts installed weather stripping photo start finish not what they ran into and what they did to correct it you know

been working on my garage, Building a new one so I can go back to work on my T it's been in a trailer since I feel through a roof head first took a year to recover only been back to work the last six months but moving forward The t top rails were pretty easy to install found a doner top by accident.

My buddies down in Phx were all mechanic or body guys most had there own shops so I could pick their brains and they would come by and take a look or suggest some change or different procedure, worked out pretty well.

All the body work has been done Still have a few parts to replace that were stolen out of my yard but pretty much have the whole car in a 5th wheel trailer except for interior it's in boxes or wrapped in strech wrap totally restored with original colors and material/pattern planning on redying all my trim parts in the next month just a little to cold still got to find some one that has picture of t-top frame going back together and all the right componets :eek:and where they fit

I was supposed to have most of the ttop work done last week but the big storm came through and my bodyman buddy wasn't able to make it over to help me get things locked up. Ill have it done though by the end of the month so if you can wait and move on to something else I can easily help you out. Also, somewhere on this site is an exploded view of the ttop section that helps a little. Just stay positive and keep plugging away, when something frustrates me I just switch gears and work on something else and come back to it after a little bit of time to think about it. Thats what has worked for me on this frame-off Ive been doing.

I've been down that road..

Hey, I also stripped my car to bare metal (jams included) check out my thread in this section.

get a Box of 8" 36 grit and a stick it pad for your buffer, and have at it.

I did this oin the large flat sections, and then used a combination of the 3M purple wheel mentioned before, and lots of little wire wheels for the cracks, and crevices.

Sanding, or chemical is a messy job....no way around it. I wore a mask, turned on my ventilation fan and spent a few hours every night..

36 grit, then 80, then buzzed over w/ 180 on a DA, Epoxy primer, 2 nice wet coats...SOLID base... GOOD LUCK !!!!!

frame off frame on

The A/c stripper was not really that messy on the exterior only sandblasted everything else big tarp and a strainer as long as sand is clean works great

As far as moving own always do planning on cleaning and dying my interior trim nexted it's all just fine but the sun bleached it ever so slightly in spots so going to do all of it also going to detail tail light units

will get back to ttop when I find the right info Any Ideal where that exploded view is on the site never saw it

be glad when it warms up want to pour last 5 yard in my new shop floor right now its got about 3 inches of ice inside the forms 40x50 over all. the best part is I dispatch for a ready mix company and get all the cement I want so very little cost since I can lay my own just to cold for cement;);)
