A friend of mine has done a compression check on a 97 454 motor....he is getting between 136-142 for compression (Dry). Does this sound about right??

What compression ratio is he supposed to be running?

Suppose to be a stock motor..8.5-1 maybe 9.0-1

I've been out of BBC for a while thanks to the GN but most late model stuff is/was very low compression in the 7.8-8.5:1 range and if those numbers are consistant across all cylinders I'd say you should be in good shape.
