I have a 87 tr that will not run sometimes it will start and has a bad miss in it. I have already replace the ignition module, coil pack, crank sensor, cam sensor, computer, checked the injectors, checked for good spark. checked for compression, checked the entire valve train and everything there is ok. It back fires also!
Anty help will be very appreciated.

Thanks!

Any engine codes? Maybe the MAF is goin bad, check the and make sure the chip is seated completely in the computer. Just a start I'm sure more people will in put more info.

87 tr runs bad

sounds like fuel problem to lean check fuel pressure and volume also check fuel quality maybe water in tank also check for unmetered air check hose from maf to turbo for leaks usually tears underneath also unplug maf when running bad if engine runs better possible bad maf or engine to lean hope this info helps mike lee itflies2@yahoo.com 87gn 86gn :D

no start

You need to start at the beginning, verify spark on all three coils, and get ahold of the flow charts from the manual regarding no starts. Assuming you are using a basically stock configuration, following these charts will lead you to the answer. Something as simple as an out of sync cam sensor can put you down. You mention that it starts sometimes, but misses badly. I hate to sound simple, but could the wires be crossed? I don't know, a lot of things could cause this, and you really need to start fresh. I have some stuff I can fax if you need diagnostics info. Let me know.

?

I have checked fuel pressure and it is at 40 and I have just drained the tank and put unleaded race gas in it.
I have a otc 2000 scan tool.
keep them coming I will try all new ideas
Thanks again

the car is far from stock it has champ heads, 55lb injectors , double pumper, 63mm turbo, moded computer, precision fm intercooler, 3" dp, 218 cam, awesome tranny w/ brake and 3500 converter, alcohol injection, i know theres more.

The reason I ask, is that this skews all the diagnostic flow charts. I really think that, despite the modified condition of your car, there are some information tidbits which would be of help to you if you would FOLLOW THE FLOW CHARTS!

I am new with the regals and I don't understand when you are talking about flow charts

Check ecm prom sockets - mine werent making full contact putting ecm in backup fuel mode which basically dumps a ton of fuel into the car (esp. with larger injectors). Pull ecm out and prom out (disconnect all power) and retension sockets.

my .02 that caused me month of chaos

the timing chain is in tact I have pulled the valve covers to check all valves and springs and I have checked all fuses.
I will recheck the cam sensor location. I also know now that it isn't the tps or maf, please keep the ideas coming guys.
Thanks

I just reset the cam sensor and it still didn't fix it.
Any more ideas????
Thanks

Get somebody over and swap some parts out with you.......ecm, coilpak/module etc. What did you change at the point this problem occured?

Did you check the small screw that holds down the "windowed" wheel at the cam sensor? If it loosens or somehow the small locating tab shears it really screws things up.

Is the miss intermittent(sp?)

Are you sure the plug wires aren't crossed?

Just some thoughts,

Good luck,
