ok i am finally getting my intercooler for x-mas...i had my heart set on a cottons fm but i was on southeast turbos website and the one they have pictured is pretty big as well as is the price but i want the biggest i can get. i want to buy once  ...does anyone have one of these se turbos intercoolers? i have heard that Mr Cotton has made his fm bigger. i guess i will call and ask Jack................................thanks for any info before i drop a bundle of cabbage  ...................................................Bob

There are several other units on the market or close to.

Remember the Jack Cotton big cooler is not TSM/TSL legal. There will be some serious testing at Reynolds, I suggest you wait untill after then and send be a PM and I'll give you a opinion based on facts backing timeslips not just timeslips.

Suggest you read the SE turbo thread in the lounge or the Powerstroke VS. Cottns on T6P for more info.

From the Turbo Street Modified – TSM Proposed Rules
Intercooler
Any stock location or front mount air to air intercooler is allowed. No part of a stock location intercooler (not the shroud) may extend down no more than 11.5” below the centerline of the crankshaft. A front mount intercooler, except for the piping, may not extend down below the bottom of the stock located radiator support.
No liquid intercoolers, intercooler external spray cooling or add-on cold boxes allowed.

Just wondering, is it because it extend more than 11.5" below the centerline of the crankshaft?

Hi Bob,

I can't say anything about the S\E unit, I haven't seen or used one. I can tell you we are working with some new cores that are rated at over 1400 HP. I recently received one for inspection and testing and hope to try a few different configurations before releasing them. Our original core design from 4 years ago was rated at 1,000hp and seemed to fit and fill a hole for the Buick community. It appears it has now come against a wall for some of the higher HP'd applications and we will be offering other units besides our current standard unit. We are working out different inlet\outlets as well as the standard "under the radiator support" configuration. Obviously this will reguire new pricing that, in the past, some guys just were not willing to go for. I'm thinking of possibly having a poll with options listed for the preferred configuration and location of the inlet\outlets. If guys are willing to go for the most efficient side locations, that is where we will go. I am also going to work on boxing in the front of the IC for better air flow to the larger units with blockage from the front bumper. Of course, that is something that myself and others have done on an individual basis, which we have found to make a differance in temps. Other options to consider would be a fan located on the back of the IC, again, helping to get more air to the entire core, resulting in a more effective unit.
hope this helps,

Thanks

The article link that sweetv6 sent has answered many of my questions...i think the Cotton's fm will be more than efficent for my car and it doesn't block my radiator(end tanks that is) and the price is right for what you get....thanks for the info.................................................Bob

Your statement on HP rating is not reflected on your web site.

COTTONS Front Mount Intercooler.

Details

This is the largest, most efficient front mount intercooler available, mandrel bent aluminum pipes, choice of hose colors, all clamps and mounting hardware included

Price: $1,149.00

Precisions standard front mount: 950HP. $895.

Not sure what hole you speak of. The PTE unit was available then. I notice you used the term "was" rated at 1000HP. I am sure this is being reviewed. ;)

However, both coolers have made it into the 8's, so each cooler seems to show it's ability to get the car down the track past thier claimed HP rating.

Stock Location Intercooler

LOOK AT THE P.T.E stock location intercooler, I have one on my car and it was easy to install and looks killer and works awsome. go to this site: www.percisionturbo.net
and look up there 18 row buick stock location I.C think it will handle 800hp.

Ya Im not too sure either about this, My car calculated at 1019HP and My temps were way to high,"I" would think that number should be more around 800 Or so flywheel. Again this is just what i and a few others found whil;e using it on 1000hp cars
Also, The article you have above,They tested the intercooler on a 12 second car, This is by no means a proper test for a front mount rated at 1000hp

there you go you said it yourself. your 19hp over.

keep up the good work Jack! ;)

The Cottons intercooler is by no means a safe 1000 HP piece. Some have made near or over 1000 HP with it but also had 200 plus mats. High mats equals high egts, high egts=KABOOM.

The standard Precision intercooler provided lower mats on a 9.50 car than a low 10 car with a Cottons intercooler.

When you refer to the "standard precision I.C." are you talking about the front mount or the stock location one?

Anyone have any comparisons to the powerstroke ford front mount as far as hp or mat temps>

Top Gun

i called precision today and asked about a stacked fm intercooler and they thought i was talking chinese. Maybe i am talking to the wrong person. Can someone point me in the right direction?..i am not looking to run in any class(tsm,tss)etc...i just want a bad a$$ street car.......thanks Bob

The intercooler That is bad ass is only a intercooler,It comes with no piping,ou must have them made elsewhere,But it is does a damn incredible job keeping inlet temps cool, At BPG i witnessed a 9.50 car have mat temps that never reached or 118*!!!! and it was 99* outside!!! Thats incredible.
My temps were in the high 180s on a 10.30 test pass

Grand Bends

i did a little searching and came up with this place in Marrieta Ga. i am not far from there...i could take the car there and have it plumbed or possiblity do it myself...i can weld a little  ..........KLHAMMETT...that is what i am looking for....i want to beat the tar out of this car and not have to worry about hot inlet temps............................................thanks Bob

What e.t. and mph are you shooting for?

The standard Precision fm intercooler gave me upper 130 mats when I ran mid 9's with it.

I stepped up to a custom Precision fm it has another 1/2 core added onto the standard unit providing even better cooling than before.
