I recently broke a $400 Scott McClay billet intermediate shaft in my th/2004r (another $400 down the drain). In the last 2 1/2 years i have broke 4 input shafts, 1 converter, 2 front pumps, 3 planetary sets, and of course 1 billet intermediate, and this is not including the numerous bands and clutch sets. As you can imagine i am fed up with this finnicky th/2004r, is it just me or do other people have these problems? At this point in time i am seriously contemplating a th/400

It seems that every time i break this tranny it costs me $300 to $600 count the times it broke and do the math. Also the tranny ALWAYS breaks on a wide open 2-3 upshift, Do any of you trans experts think that maybe ,just maybe 3rd could try to apply while 2nd hasn't let go yet? this is the only reason i could come up with on the failures i have encounterd. :confused: any input would be greatly appreciated :confused:
 
Just thought I would let you know before the experts chime in that their probably gonna want some "DETAILS" about it. Like what kind of HP, torque, gear ratio, weight of car, boost if any, who built it, ect... I would say unless you have well over 400hp a properly assembled 2004r shouldn't brake that easily. If memory servres me correct there are some 600hp cars running these trannies, without failure, but like I said they were modified and done correctly. Have you checked out the post "stengthening the 2004r" at the top of the posts?
 
86 T-TYPE 3550# RACE WEIGHT, 231 V6 WITH ARP HARDWARE TRW PISTONS WITH SPEED PRO RINGS, 214 ERSON FLAT TAPPET, FULLY PORTED STOCK HEADS W/ BIG STAINLESS VALVES, FULLY PORTED INTAKE,65MM T-BODY, ATR HEADDERS, ATR 3" DOWNPIPE, ATR 3" SINGLE EXH., 50# INJECTORS WITH A 7TH 50#, WALBRO 340, PRECISION FRONT MOUNT INTERCOOLER, PTE -60 TURBO(THE PAST YEAR OF ABUSE WAS WITH A STOCK TURBO) JOE LUBRANDT CHIP, (STOCK COMPUTER), 3.23 GEARS W/26" TIRE, I ALSO KEPT SWITCHING BETWEEN A 2600 CONVERTER AND A 3200, BOLTH WERE LOCK-UP 11-9 STYLE CONVERTERS, MY FIRST CONVERTER THAT I LAID OVER WAS A CONTENENTIAL 3500.

WITH THE STOCK TURBO AND A SET OF SPORTSMAN PRO'S 26"X 11.5 AND 18# OF BOOST, AND THE 2600 CONVERTER THE CAR WENT 12.17 @ 111.75 AND IT WOULD GO 12.70'S AT 106 WITH 14# OF BOOST ON RADIAL T/A'S WITH PUMP GAS.

WITH THE 60 TURBO AND 18# OF BOOST AND THE 3200 CONVERTER ON RADIAL T/A'S (THE STOCK INTERCOOLER WAS ON THE CAR AT THIS POINT IN TIME) THE CAR WENT 12.60'S AT 116.50.

I NOW HAVE A 72 MM TURBO, ANOTHER WALBRO 340 , AND A MSD DIS 4 FOR THE CAR. THE CONVERTER WAS ALSO GOING TO BE SENT OUT TO GET LOOSEND UP . WILL I JUST CONTINUE TO KILL THE TRANNY WITH THESE FUTURE MODIFICATIONS? I NEVER GOT A CHANCE TO TURN THE SCREW UP WITH ANY OF THE COMBO'S I HAVE RUN DUE TO TRANNY PROBLEMS. EVERY TIME I TRIED IT JUST BROKE........SOMETIMES I DIDIN'T HAVE TO TRY.

i went through 3 transmissions myself (3k rebuilds) then went to bruce needless to say it cost me a 4th time but let me say that i was stupid for not going there the first time !!!!!!!!!! you want a testament as to a 200 that wont break i have one i dont *****foot my car around it has 100k on it and i drive it on kill 25 psi slicks ect all the time it recently made 550 hp to the rear tires on 23 lbs of boost at 5300 ft elevation (on the weatherstation) and the trans wasnt even working

HEY IDAHO GN, DID YOU RUN INTO ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS LAST WEEKEND (OR DO YOU KNOW WHO DID) HE CALLED ME AND TOLD ME HE RACED A GN IN BOISIE AREA WITH HIS 1968 BIG BLOCK CAMARO? HIS NAME IS SAM AND HE WAS WITH 2 OTHER VERY GOOD FRIENDS LOU AND CARLOS? THEY WERE DRIVING A MOTORHOME ON THERE WAY TO CANADA. WE ARE ALL VERY CLOSE STREET RACING BUDDIES, DID YOU KNOW THE FELLA THAT JUST PASSED AWAY WITH THE BIG BLOCK RX2? I WAS PITTED RIGHT NEXT TO HIM AT FIREBAUGH BACK IN FEB. I STREET RACE A ORANGE 72 VEGA, ALONG WITH MY T-TYPE (THE T- CAR IS THE SLOW ONE) BY THE WAY BRUCE DID BUILD MY TRANNY. THANK'S FOR YOUR HELP GUY'S.

I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT I THINK THE WORLD OF BRUCE AND HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN THERE FOR ME, THE BREAKING OF HARD PARTS IS NOT HIS FAULT NOR DO I BLAME HIM FOR ANY OF THESE BREAKS, (BUT YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THAT I AM FED UP WITH TH/2004R) THIS 200 STUFF IS JUST TOO DANM EXPENSIVE FOR MY TASTE (REMEMBER IM JUST A POOR STREET RACER) I HAVE A LOT OF FAITH IN BRUCE AND I WILL NEVER GO ANYWHERE ELSE FOR TRANNY STUFF AND I WISH I HAD THE $$$$$ TO THROW AT THIS THING BUT I AM JUST AFRAID I WILL CONTINUE BREAKING STUFF, SO DO I JUST FORGET THE TH/2004R AND GO TH/400 AND CALL IT QUITS? IF I DID I CAN GAURNTEE ALL OF YOU THAT P.T.S. WILL BUILD IT. :)

as for the xxx stuff you did way to much work on that vega i was the guy running aroound doing the the tire pressure and suspension adj on the molester paul was my good friend and i was the one that got him to come to the undisclosed location to race only thing is that nobody wanted to race him except for the owner in the black nova for fun he is sorely missed here still and will be for a long time
