Has anyone ever heard of, or, had their billet wheel turbo impeller damaged due to defect? Recently I was told that the wheels were "weaker" then traditional cast wheel turbos? I've always been under the impression it was the opposite?

Typically the billet wheels are made from a forged piece that would increase the strength well over a cast wheel. The wheel designers take advantage of this by making them thinner, lighter, and in the process improve the aerodynamics.

That sir is a load of shit.
Thank you.

This is what I was told when I bought the turbo as well. Just wanting to clarify, as its kinda a mute point now, as I already have a new turbo. But I've been wondering if I'd lost my marbles the last few nights.

Don't confuse thinner/lighter with weaker. Another thing to note is the critical speed on a forged wheel will be much higher before it burst.

Ive always read most anything billet is going to be stronger AND lighter!

I would guess lighter b/c it can be machined thinner...
