Guys,

I have been in communication with James (Bishir). As many of you know, he recently suffered a devastating loss due to hurricane Ivan. This included damage to his house, garage, GN, Mustang, and pretty much all of his worldly belongings.

I offered to James about taking up a collection to help him out. While he was adimant about not wanting people to give up their hard earned money, he did say that he wouldn't mind me posting his address for people to at least send a card with their well wishes.

Now, bear in mind, if a $10, $20, or $100 bill/check happened to make it's way into the card, well, I think he would be EXTREMELY appreciative..

While James had insurance, his GN and Mustang were not insured, not to mention the NUMEROUS other expenses he will have to front out of pocket..

Please give what you can. He has been a valued member of this site and community..

His address is: (posted with James permission)

James Bishir
4455 Casa Grande Dr.
Milton, Fl 32583

I thank each of you in advance (as I am sure James does) for helping out a fellow board member/friend in a difficult time.

Man, thats tough. I hope he's able to recover. I'll send him a little something, and let him know I have a whole bunch of stock Gn parts and anything he needs that I have is his for the taking. If everyone pitches in he can get through it.

Oh, that nice new garage and his cars got damaged? That bites the bag.

Having a new baby and a POS Buick, I'm pretty strapped right now-- but I still sent a LITTLE something. Let's really all try to help out, folks.

Not trying to be a d!ck but no insurance on a GN and mustang?

Flood damage isn't covered. James said he had insurance on the Mustang but not on the GN (just got it back to being drivable since the race track incident). Homeowner's insurance might cover the GN since he had separate flood insurance (might not).

BTW, those who don't know, your homeowner's insurance will only pay for wind damage and water damage that is a direct result of the wind damage (i.e. roof came off). Rising water isn't covered! Also most insurance companies down here instituted a 2% (of home's value) deductible shortly before Hurricane Georges in '98. That still causes people LOTS of problems and expense.

Richard pretty much covered it.

I'm staying a friends house today so I'll post what I can.
There are a lot of people in the same situation I am right now unfortunally. Thanks for the cards that have been sent. It means a lot to my family. I really want it known though that I'm not asking for money. I'm so devistated that I will use it, but please know that I did not ask. I had someone run into the GN about a year ago at the dragstrip and that was uninsured losses because it was at the racetrack. I actually only canceled insurance on it about a month ago when I had planned to change both the Mustang and GN to Grundy when the Mustang policy expired at the end of this month.

For those that PMed me I am okay as well as my family. Our son is only 3 months old so it's not an idea situation for him right now. We took him to grandparents in Illinois. What fooled many folks down here was the fact they sell you flood and hurricane insurance. Most people were told hurricane insurance covers anything to do with a hurricane and they make flood insurance manditory in a lot of areas. However, what they fail to tell you is that flood insurance has MANY restrictions on what is covered. If wind had blown my house and my possessions away I would have had great coverage. They also charge you 2 deductibles. 1 for flood and 1 for hurricane. In my case that amounts to 4 thousand in just insurance deductables!

I'd also like to ask anyone to PM me with some suggestions on saving a car that was flooded.

Anyways, thanks for the cards, and I wish the best of luck to our other Turbo Buick brethern that were affected. I know there are a lot of us in Fla!

Thanks,
James
