I know I've read a bit about this from posts in the past, but I'm concerned again.
Every time I start my car, all this black carbon crap sprays out of the drivers side exhaust pipe for a while until the car heats up or it all blows out. Where the heck is all ths crud coming from and is this a sign of something bad? Not only is it gross, but it's a pain to keep the garage clean when it gets filthy when the car is started!

Pain in the butt aint it? ;)

More or less due to the cold start up, open loop operation, until the engine shifts to closed loop it's running fairly rich. That's what causes it, mostly.

it sounds to me like you need to take the car out for a ride on a nice open road and step on it get that carbon out your running rich maybe you do a lot of stop and go driving alot of idleing pull one of your plugs check it for carbon deposits you may ned a different plug.just something to think about

This is common. Driving your car or steping on it will not make a difference. Like Dave said it is due to a rich cold start. All three of my TR's do this.
