I ordered all the necessary parts to do the head gasket change, but there was antifreeze in the oil, albeit a minimal amount. The person I bought it from whom I trust had blown it and immediately let off it and turned off the motor. I read somewhere either here or another forum that there is a suggested way to complete this job, short of doing any drastic work, as long as no serious damage was done. It was along the line of pour oil in certain areas and keep flushing the engine with a oil change everyday for like a week? I appreciate any advice/guidance in this matter.

Drain and refill with oil. Run it for a minute and repeat. Antifreeze will eat the bearings even while the engine is off. Anytime I blew a gasket and there was antifreeze in the oil, I drained the oil and water, refilled with oil, and run the motor for a minute to get the good oil in there with no antifreeze. Good luck.

I agree, antifreeze will eat a bearing in a heartbeat. Keep flushing your motor with some cheap oil, (if there is such a thing) and maybe lose the antifreeze for the rest of the summer. Try some denatured water and some water wetter or royal purple water treatment.....good luck to you

So I should drain the oil now, because I am waiting to get all the parts in the mail? How many times should I flush it? Thanks again.

can you explain the denatured water/water wetter fix? You mean instead of coolant/antifreeze? after the head gasket change, how would this have a positive effect the engine? Thanks

You don't want antifreeze if you don't need it, especially in the summer. Antifreeze doesn't transfer heat as well as straight water. Water Wetter helps transfer heat even better than straight water and it serves as a waterpump lube. Antifreeze also eats away at bearings if it gets in the oil. The engine doesn't have to be running, it eats them away while sitting. You need to drain and refill with oil now. Drain all the coolant out and leave it empty. Start the motor for a minute or crank it over with the starter to get the fresh non contaminated oil to the bearings. When you're done with the headgasket change, drain and refill with oil again because chances are you're going to get more water in the oil when you pull the heads and intake.

While you're at it, flush the cooling system. Go to your grocery store and buy about 10 gallons of denatured water (89 cents p/g around here) After you change the headgaskets, fill the rad with the clean water and leave the rad cap off, it'll take awhile but when the thermostat finally dumps the water in the block, turn the car off and dump the rad again and refill with the clean water. Repeat this procedure until the water you dump out of the rad is pretty much clear or at least you don't see anymore antifreeze...BTW...Advance auto parts carries WaterWetter for about 8 bucks a bottle and 1 bottle is more that enough to do the job.....Good Luck
