While being a damn show off doing burnouts I wanted to do just one more I heard a thump and stopped immediately. Then I went for reverse to back it up and park and check things out I had no reverse. Today I had time to pull my rear diff cover and chunks of metal I find along with a grinding noise that's sounds like bad rotors coming from the housing:banghead: What's the best way to go should I rebuild what I have or buy a complete??? Keep in mind my funds are limited

You'll need to pull it all apart before you can find out what it needs, then you can decide. If the center section is damaged along with the gears it may be cheaper to buy a complete unit used, but if it's just the spiders then it shouldn't be that bad.

The noise I heard was brake hardware that came undone springs and a bracket, but I'm still concerned about the metal I found in it the gears look ok I'm still inspecting at the moment but I will definitely upgrade/rebuild

Just found the broken teeth but I already found a complete in good condition in my area updates coming soon

Looks like a broken carrier and some chips out of the gears.
Would this stop the car from going in reverse??? There's a guy I know with a good stock replacement in my area drum to drum for $350 I figure I'll grab it for now while I rebuild and upgrade my original

Buy the other one and rebuild yours. Once done you can sell the one you bought and recoup some of the cost.

$350 for an 8.5 rear ?! Thats a great deal Are you sure its not a 7.5?

As far as a rebuild, do you have any recommendations on what to do or use what gear ratio which axles??? I wanna have fun light to light occasional burnouts and run a decent 1/4 is there any links on this?

Eaton carrier with 30 spline axles. The stock 3.42 gears work well, but if you were running 1/8th only I'd do 3.73 gears.

It's kind of hard to tell in the pictures but looks like a single track I'm not seeing the clutch pack?
