For the last 6 months the car has been burning oil, only after the car would come to temperature. After a few attempts to fix it figuring it wasn't the turbo, I broke down and pulled the turbo from the car. First thing I noticed was it had about an 1/8" of play side to side, but no up and down play. As I tore it down, I first found, what I believe is a worn turbine wheel:

Then I pulled the compressor housing off and found these grooves:

With matching marks on the turbine wheel:

Flipped over the center section and found a bunch of oil, that looks to of been there for a while:

As I tore down the center section:

Not sure what this is, but it was broken:

And this was cracked:

Lastly both bearing's were moderately scored:

This is a stock turbo out of a 86k mile car. Any idea's of what would of happened? I change the oil every 1k miles or so and don't drive the car much.

Thanks,

Doug D

My guess is the oil feed line is plug or partly plug. The broken part is the trust bearing. I would remove the oil feed line and inspect. And after the thrust bearing failed it took out both wheels. And oil in the exhaust wheel after the failed bearing is normal.
