boost gauge noise

I just installed a VDO boost gauge and am getting a 'tinny' vibration noise at low boost levels < 1psi. No noise above 1. Is this a common thing or is the connection bad? I used a brass fitting from Lowe's.

Also, the gauge is maxing out around 13-14 psi. I have a custom chip for stock injectors. Is this normal, and how high boost can you go on 91 octane in Cali. Have upgraded sx fuel pump. Need adj. regulator, wastegate and scanmaster.

I'm in the same boat you are. Still in need of an adj. regulator. (And a good scantool). Except I have slightly upgraded injectors and a Thrasher chip. I run Sunoco 94, and once managed about 18 psi with no "hear-able" knock, but I'm sure there had to be some, so I backed it down a little. It runs strong at about 17 psi, but leaned out on me once at the track because of the fuel pressure reg. I would be careful with 91 octane and boost. Keep it around 14-15 psi. Especially w/o the regulator. I'm staying out of it myself, until I get everything properly upgraded.

Yup, my VDO gauge has the same exact "tinny" ringing noise at the same point - right on the verge of making boost, so probably normal.

Mine to. I was wondering what the hell that was. It almost sounds like when you shake a bad light bulb around and put your ear next to it right?

Any Cure? I've always had AutoMeter in the past, the Tinny noise is a bit un-nerving!!!

guess, I'm not the only one, I'm going to try changing the fitting to another and see if that helps. Did anybody find a good fitting anywhere that holds the vacuum line tight?

back in 95, i had a owned a lightning that aside from other mods, i installed a paxton supercharger in it...my boost gauge wasnt an autometer, but a grainger gauge that displayed around 40 inches of mercury and 15 or so lbs. of air pressure...since this was not an automotive boost gauge, I had to run a larger air line than what ive seen lately...i was only pushing 8 psi max, but had the same prob...being that my airline was larger, i just disrupted the airflow between the gauge and the airline by stuffing a piece of foam in it and it went away...didnt see a change in pressure, because i didnt BLOCK it...just kinda filtered it....hope i didnt confuse you, but it worked for me...HTH
