Just got the car, set at 15lb. Seems like i could go higher with the alky. At what boost levels does a stock turbo stop making power?

Research Ed Brewer here on this board. 11.37 at 116.5. Boost was 26 PSi in 1st gears and down to 23 in high gear with great weather. I would say 22-24 psi for boost.

You need a chip, scantool(scanmaster), basics like spring cleaning, and learn to tune the car little at a time. Even a simple bump from 15-20 with an alky chip will boost it up like another 60-75 RWHP.

Was thinking.. Bryan in KC went like 11.80's on a stock turbo..pump gas + alcohol. And the record run was done in KC

Just rolling through some threads and this one popped up... Bird city kansas... sunflowers and sons a xxxxxxx I think you need to focus on getting the boost up, 15psi on BP 93 and meth is really not what the motor wants, if you have a chip burned for meth, you need to start turning the boost way up. If its a street chip, you need to start turning the timing way up.
If your chip is set for meth, stock turbo, then start turning the boost up, you could already be seeing black smoke out the tail pipe from lack of boost.

A direct answer to the question. 26 psi its done anything over 28° of timing at that boost, its done. You can ad up to 33° in first gear but your gains in 60 foots wont be significant, yes it will come in sooner but the turbo just makes x amount of power.
I went 11.7 114.78 full weight limited with power everything. I sold it to a good friend in canada, tta too :(

Stock turbo is way much more fun than a 44 and a tight convertor, run the stock turbo as far as you can, get a convertor and its even more fun.
I daily drove my car with multi turbos and multi convertors, just got board with it... I still have 3 turbo regals, just a little rusty on some stuff.

Bought the car Sat. in Seattle, drove it back. Got home today. It has a scanmaster, tt chip , 60's and boost control and adj. fuel pressure. And of course Razors alky. He has it at 15 and it runs ok. I ran that with no alky or race fuel yeaRS AGO. i SOLD MY 10 SEC CAR LAST YEAR. i will bump it up a little this weekend and keep an eye on the knock. thanks guys.

Im running 20lbs right now. I was running RICH at the boost level with a TT Chip that is set for 22-26. I lowered the fuel at WOT and am getting no knock at 20lbs and a good 02. I would guess you could easily run 22-24lbs without an issue. I need to get rid of this DP and Cat Converter soon :D.

Varify injectors. Wonder why low boost level? Put a new pump in it for safety sake and filter plugs and wires. Ain't no daily driver 10 second car ;)

ZNix I'd imagine that he's talking to the OP since the OP just purchased the vehicle.

If I was to sell someone a car, I would set boost to 15 PSI as well in case the new owner didnt know anything he wouldnt blow it up and then post negative comments. Its kind of hard to break a car when boost is set low.

Now that you have the car, you need to go over everything. And start testing everything not stock on the car to make sure there are no issues. A simple perfect example is it may have my kit, but installed in 2004 and the pump is no longer working properly due to age. As I have been making these kits now for 8 years. Same goes with fuel pump.. might have been installed in 1995.. thats not a piece I would trust for any higher power levels.

Turning boost up is easy. Watching everything is something else. take your time.

has a hot wire kit and new pump. It was all done early this year by GN Northwest in Washington. He only had the car 1 1/2 years. It has 56,000 true miles, he needs a new furnance in his house.

Ok then :D

Crank it up :)

I went 11.9s on two different cars with a stock turbo in the last couple of years. 22lbs of boost, around base alky timing of 23/21. One car had a somewhat loose 10.5 converter in a TH400, the other had a 2004R with a restalled D5 that I didn't lock, both around 110mph. 11.8s would have been within reach. Thats as fast as "most" have ever been on a near stock, full weight Buick. I found the gains with higher boost to be small. So I'd say to be safe keep the timing near base and turn it up to 21-22. Thats enough to run high 11's with bolt-ons and the fuel set right on a good running engine with a good 60ft in the 1.5 range.

What other things were done? 3"DP and Dump? Head work?

Thanks
Zack

boost controller won't get me past 19lbs. Still has the non adjustable stock gate. Should that mater?

You can see a summary of the cars on these threads:
-http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/time-slip-combo-database/316173-11-94-109-8-stock-turbo.html

Quick summary: they both had 3" THDPs, no cat, stock heads on one, mildly cleaned up heads on the other, one with a stock cam, the other with a 206/206 flat tappet, both with dutt neck stock intercoolers, both with 27" MT drag radials, 60fts high 1.5s/low 1.6s, beefed up suspension on one, nearly stock suspension on the other, outside temps in the low 60s, weight with driver 3590 in one, 3680 for the other.

I'd say the key things were free flowing exhaust, cool weather and getting rid of some excess weight (both cars started out around 3800-3900 with driver). A good tranny and tune too.
