I have a 89 TTA.I installed a ATR 3" downpipe w/external ATR wastegate.
I installed Alky Control system & Turbo Tweak chip.I should be running 23-24# boost.I get 16#,thats all..I am still using the stock vacuum line with [.040] orifice & stock wastegate acuator. Is this the correct configuiration,or,should I eliminate anything to aquire more boost?I also has a elecrtronic boost controller that has not been installed yet.

Or save the time and get one of these.

They work VERY well and are easier to adjust than the wastegate rod. I had one for ~3 years and NEVER had a problem. No boost spike, great spool up. Actually I probably had the 'basic' one because the 'hybrid' wasn't out yet. Only reason I got rid of it was because I went with a 'rice' in car electronic thingy so I can adjust everything from the seat. RJC makes one just like the one above now. I'm sure his works just as well, but I can't speak from experiance. HTH

The wastegate spring should hold the gate from opening depending on the spring in the wastegate.

You should not have to use the factory y fitting when using the external gate, also wont have to use the FACTORY wastegate solenoid unless you want to use that electronic boost controller.

Have you tried adjusting the center bolt in the deltagate to get more boost?
Is this a new issue with the gate? Did you have 23-24 before the new mods?

There are 2 ways to do this, take a picture of your deltagate and email it to me.. Id like to see how its hosed up

Not being a smarta$$ here, but does the delta gate use a vacuum referance? I've really never used one that's why I ask. I have used the above boost controller on another external with excellent results.

It doesnt use a vacuum source, but does use a pressure source for boost control.
My green car has the ATR downpipe with the deltagate and since the gate wont open till 16psi of boost, no need for the RJC valve.

Since my heads are off i cant tell you if it would work on my car, but another buddy of mine put it on his car, made no difference.

What gate are you using?

I'm using a ATR external waste gate attached to a ATR 3" downpipe & stock vacuum lines that were formerly attached to the sock waste gate.Line is attached to a fitting on the side of the waste gate.

I see. By "vacuum referance" I meant manifold ref. Bad choice of words. The device I referanced above worked well for me with a stock wastegate set with about 1/8 inch of tension. I ran as high as 25# of boost with more adjustability. Like I said, I went with a electronic setup and so I gave it to a friend of mine. He was an import guy, but he set up his car with a turbo himself and was trying to do everything himself, but he wasn't that good at it. Anyway, he was a good guy, (not like these other ricers) so I gave him that boost controller. We set it up with his external gate and not only did it help spool, but he was able to run more than the 7# his spring was rated at. It works like a switch, so if you use it the spring in the waste gate should only determine the lowest boost you can run. IMO that's a good setup because if you have to lower (or raise) your boost you can. Of course, apparently you should be able to do that with the deltagate, and if you can't I conform to the idea that you should fix the setup and not bandaid it. But if you reach the limit of your spring, one of those boost controllers might be a good option. As a side note, I didn't use the RJC version, (it wasn't around yet) and so I don't know what that ones internals (the spring pressure mainly) are like.
