My wife and I are planning on going to Boston this summer.
I can get a flight for $418 roundtrip into the Boston airport or for about 1/2 that price, I can fly Southwest into Manchester, NH or Providence, RI.
Is it worth the price difference to fly into Boston airport?

Thanks

No. Off the top of my head, the only reasons for the extra $200 you might want to fly into Boston was if you weren't planning to rent a car and planned on taking public transportation or someone else was footing the bill. I usaully take Providence, both Airports a litle over 1 hour from Boston, but both are a lot easier to navigate around and they usually are quicker to check in and out of.

"Depends". What are you doing here? Business? Renting a car?

There is more transportation to/from Logan, and more flights available. But if you are just vacationing, then the only penalty for Manchester is about an extra hour drive to get to Boston.

Manchester is a smaller airport so it takes less time to get through security, etc.

The planes that fly into Manchester are typically smaller planes. No 747s or such.

Providence is about the same.

I fly Manchester whenever possible.

Only reason we are coming is to go to Fenway Park.
I hope we will be staying near the ballpark.
Is there transportation from Manchester into Boston or will I need to rent a car?

That's all we are really coming for.
It will be the middle of August.
Any other idea of things to do or restaurant suggestions?

Thanks

prob just fly into Boston then ... plenty of places to eat around Fenway Park ... McDonald's are around there to

Tomorrow is the day Red Sox tickets go on sale. Fenway park isn't like most baseball park where you can just show up and buy tickets (other than the scalpers) I would buy the tickets tomorrow, tickets aren't cheap either/

Boston tends to be pricy on hotel rooms, I am not sure I would stay in a hotel right around Fenway (Kenmore Square). IMO Fenway is the only thing to do in that area, besides eat.

If you are just flying in for a game then leaving, then fly to Boston and take public transportation. It adds (in a positive way) to the whole Boston experience.

If you are staying for several days and gonna do stuff outside of the city, then a car would be worthwhile so it would make sense to fly to Manchester and rent the car there.

I will be in for 4 days so I do have some time.
I have been waiting for the tickets to go on sale since Christmas.

Good Luck & bring lots o cash. Everything is $$ in Beantown, but since your from the land of BIG TEX I am sure your no stranger to Big money.

Agreed with Grump fly into boston take a 100 cab ride to fenway, visit Whitey Bulger, pleanty of resturant, you will need a translation book for the accent we have  NO BIG DRAWL here.

The flights to Manchester NH are cheaper but then you have rent a car drive into mass (better get the insurance). Good race car practice & no blinkers.

I've always used Providence mostly because rental cars are slightly less than in Hartford (not to mention Boston) and Legal Seafood is right there at the airport entrance. If you're going for a few days than a few "must do"'s: dinner at the Prudential Skywalk, swan boat ride in Boston Common, head down to Foxwoods to lose some money, head north To Salem, south to Pawtucket R.I. to wach the PawSox, tour some of the mansions in Newport...sorry getting homesick now........:(

ES1: My father, brother and I are going to fly up there to a game this year also. We are trying to decide if we want to New York (not Yankee fans) to see a game there also. Depending on when we go, maybe you won't be the only southeners there.

Fly to Logan and take the "T" wherever you need to go. It's easy to navigate and pretty cheap (atleast it was when I went to school up there...). Hotels in Boston are NOT cheap! You will enjoy Fenway though...I had a great time watching a Sox/Yanks game there. Wicked fun!!!
I miss Boston a LOT, except for the sh!tty winters. Much fun was had there.

Is this area OK to stay at?
I usually stay at La Quintas.

Somerville is a pretty decent place. Not familiar with that particular hotel though.

I find Somerville super difficult to navigate. The Hotel you mentioned isn't on the Subway line, its looks to be about mile from Bunkerhill T Stop on the Orange line. You could always call the Hotel to see if their are any bus routes in that area (that would bring you to the Subway)

Slummerville

Yah know for what your going to spend wouldn't it be cheaper to wait for the sox to go to texas & see them play there? or buy the box dvd set & just watch it. Beats wasting your money to sit in a crummy old park.

If ya have some stones you could stay 1 hr away @ a much cheaper rate. Just rent a car & park at lot near fenway or on a T bus/train line.

If I wasn't so booked in life I would tour you around myself

remember you need to go "where everybody knows your name" Cheers
tell your buddy Norm sent you lol remember and visit the north end and the ghost tour and duck tours

i would recomend Logan international since you dont know new england
