While enroute to a car show early Saturday morning, the brake light came on while I was driving. Fortunately there was no traffic so I coasted over to the side of the road (hard brake pedal) and waited about a minute and the light went off. Drove another mile and the light came on again/went off so I turned around and drove the 5 miles back home (no more problems). I swapped the accumulator and drove about 50 miles without any more brake lights.
This *&#$@ accumulator was put on the car in May 04 and since then I have driven 1400 miles. Seems to me that it should last longer. The accumulator is being checked out to make sure it is at fault but if it is bad, could this "premature" failure be caused by contaminants in the brake fluid, age, poor storage temps (cold/hot) before being installed or something else? Or do I just have bad luck. I know the correct answer is vacuum brakes but I am trying to keep the car stock for now.
Thanks.
