I did a search but found nothing but powermaster issues:rolleyes: What is a good fluid to use in our cars. I was thinking of changing to a silicone type so if I ever have a leak it won't harm the paint. Any thoughts on this.
Thanks

To the best of my knowledge--silicone type fluid cannot be used in a power master brake assembly due to the rubber seals would swell and fail. I was working on Buick's technical assistance line back in the grand national hey-day and we never recommended any other fluid other than standard brake fluid. I know it can never be used in any abs system either. Hope that helps. Dp

Just change it yearly. You don't have to purge the lines just suck it out of the master cylinder and wipe it clean.

Assuming you have a Powermaster, as already mentioned, do not use DOT 5 synthetic (silicone) unless you want to ruin the EPDM seals. Stick to dot 3 or 4. Dot 4 has a higher boiling point but needs to be changed more frequently, which all PM owners should be doing anyway. Once or even twice a year should be mandatory.

I was looking at changing to the DOT 5 because if you get a leak it won't harm the paint. My power masters are sitting on the shelf and both cars are vac assist. Since I posted on here I was looking at other sources and Lamb, Mark Williams and wildwood don't recomend the silicone fluid in there race stuff. Thanks for the input and opinions
