brake hard to press

ok.. so my brakes were fine.. i pull it in the shop to replace the head gaskets. when i go to pull it out, the brake light is on, and the brakes are instantly hard to press with very little brakes... the fuse is fine.. anyone know anything else? stock brakes btw.. and i know they go out, but working one day and not the next?? anyone have a wiring diagram? pinout or anything?

With the key on engine off, press and release the brake pedal once or twice. Does the brake's electric motor run???
