My vac. pump motor on my G.N. makes a whining/screching, sorta sound. Can I just replace the pump motor ? what kind of job is that? What's the cost verses switching to vacuum brakes ? And where is the best place to get a vac. pump, how much do they cost ? The brakes work fine, just that noise, when I come to a stop.

Red Regal has been selling the pieces for the conversions, and there's a bunch of threads about it.

If you have a PM system, it's a hydralic pump, not vacuum.

Be sure to use a non-shared hose to the booster. Getting a *billet* vac block, seems like good advise.

Thanks for using the search function. :)

Being testy never helps. :)
URL's supplied upon request.... :)

O.K. I might have gotten a little testy, sorry, The searching I done didn't really answer my questions, Can I just rebuild the Hyd. pump, yes it is a power master original. Ijust wondered if that would be cost effective compared to the hassle of switching to a vac. system. thanks for your help Bruce.

Don't think you can rebuild the pump (I've never tried tho) and they're N/A from GM anymore. But you can get new ones here: http://www.members.tripod.com/Turbocars/pm.html
Seems like all the powermaster parts are or are soon to be discontinued, including the PM itself. There are some new PM's out there, but when they're gone, that's it.

The PM can have a one application, total failure. And then the pedal effort goes extremely high. IMO, that's the worst possible situation. For that reason alone, IMO, going to vacuums is worth the effort.

Again, IMO, cost shouldn't be a consideration when doing brake work. When everything goes into the s-----, the last thing you want to risk not being able to get you out of an ugly position is the brakes.

No problem

PLEASE READ "ANYONE RUNNING VACUUM"

vern, i posted some info on the other question "anyone running vacuum brakes" please read. some good info about the p/m/ pump assy
