Just replaced my roof rails and door weatherstrip with new gm. The fit is good but the door and glass is so tight. Any techniques to make them conform and or relax? I bought some gm silicone emulsion and applied it. I just hate to have to close the doors with such force. Thanks kevin..

Give it a few months it will settle out. After a year I would tweak the windows if need be but you will probably be fine. Kirban has a good book that covers window adjustments.

the first time I replace mine w/ metro seals, I had the same problem. I took a rag w/ clean motor oil and wiped down the seals every oce in a while, and let the car sit out in the sun to gte the seals warm.

It just takes time...I'm gonna have to go through it again when I install the new GM seals I also got..

I had a buddy who was so proud how nice his Cutlass doors shut, becuase he had the original worn out seals still on the car..it's hard w/ new seals....

Good Luck!

Bin there. Give it some time and let the sun do his job:biggrin:they will be find about 4to6 weeks.

So how did GM get the doors to shut so nice on the cars when they were new????:confused:

Just replaced all of mine too. It's been a couple of weeks, they are getting better. The first week or two they were very hard to close. All is well now. I don't think the car has seen any sun since either, just the pressure from the door being closed in my case.

lol I can tell you that mark, they didn't then either . But by the time they got to the car lots they had done compressed and fit great then. I have changed a ton of them in all kinds of cars over the years and it's just normal. They will squish some with a few weeks of time and heat and fit perfect then. Daniel

thanks for all the replies. I figured there would be a break in period but I wasn't ready for the seals to be so tight. Do any of you guys use anything to lubricate them as well that might aid in their break-in. Thanks again.
