BRF and CZ 2004R question

My understanding is that BRF is a 86-87 turbo regal tranny and the CZ came in SS monte carlos. I have a local transmission guy telling me the trannys are the same, he is even saying that D-5 convertors came with the CZ trannys? My understanding is the the valve body, servo, and torque convertors were different than any other 2004R. Can anyone give me any verification of this?

Both came with D5, both have performance vb's though slightly differ but you wouldn't notice that from a driving aspect other than cz has one press. sw. and br has 2 really the only differance you'll see. br has a slightly large servo. To swap the 2 you would only have to change the wiring for the extra sw. and with either one I would suggest a larger billet servo anyway.

All you need to do is install a GN servo or a billet one. To be honest as Greg said , I would just install as is and run. I will bet anybody side by side a BRF and CZ could not be told apart in performance , other than servo diameter. Driving would be the same. I have a few customers that requested a cz for their Turbo Regal, because one of the only differences in the cz is the fact they kickdown earlier in the throttle position. With some combos and turbo configs this could be a beneficial thing. Think about it.... Anyway , bolt it in........

If you rebuilt a CZF tranny and installed a regular 2004R covertor, would you notice much performance differnce in a SS Monte?

If by "regular 2004R covertor" you mean a stock stall t/c instead of a D5, then yes you would definately notice it.
