This is the 2nd time now that i have had this happen to my transmission. The piston has spun inside the drum and sanded the "nipples" off on the bottom of the drum. The springs on my 16 spring retainer are all twisted and broken as well as the plastic cage that the springs sit in. I'm not sure what happens first, whether the piston spins twisting and breaking the springs or the opposite. I know this is because of inertia when the band stops the drum etc... but it does not seem to be a common problem as the few i have spoken with really couldn't give me a known fix. I have the car setup for a 6100 rpm 1-2 shift. Could this be the problem? Could my springs just be worn? On the last rebuild i installed a new drum and piston and put in a good used 16 spring retainer. Any help or ideas with this would be great. I have been looking for helper springs to put in but haven't had much luck. Thanks guys. I'll probably post pics of the damage later today if i get the chance.
