Would there be any benefit (or harm) in removing the lockup check ball (in the end of the input shaft) when running a lockup 9x11 style t/c?? I was 'theorizing' that it might be a little safer for those of us who lockup the t/c from 2nd gear and on.

Thanks,

Ron:D

Yep. Remove it.

We recommend it. I pull the ball on all of the performance units we build. (Actually, we pull capsule and all)
My d-5's and the 9X11's have no problem with it, in fact, they like it;)

Yes, remove it. :)

personally i never remove the ball as i feel it puts too much stress on th convertor damper and pushes the convertor into the engine reducing crankshaft endplay .also it allows oil to travel too fast through the cooler not allowing enough time for heat to be exchanged .no matter how strong a convertor is if you drop it out a second story window its gonna break. do you see what im getting at?.the clutch will apply fast enough at wot if all is working right and in overdrive without the ball you can damage the overdrive planetary internal splines and input shaft.i like things to be smooth not brutal as it takes excessive internal torsional twisting and loading off the parts extending their life.

Of course it does!! I intend to remove mine and then immediately reinstall it. Best of both worlds!...lol!;)
