Well you have no idea in what form would they come in --this guy(bttwracing86T ) has been on this forum since 2001 and I thought that he would be a fair and square seller but I was wrong..I bought 76 q trim turbo that was supposedly as new just read this thread and you tell me :for sale 76 q trim turbo ..well anyhow when I got this thing it has up and down play on the shaft and so much if you hold one side up you bind up the turbo from spinning..I have email and pm him about the issue and he is telling me that the turbo is just dirty and needs cleaned up --:confused: :confused: :mad:Have contacted his brother on this forum with the idea to persuade him in to talking to me but no go .. I have offered him to either give me my money back and I send him the turbo or I send it for a rebuild job and he pays for it and what do you know no anwser at all ...crook and a half --he is somewhere in ocala florida working as a parts sales and is 23 years old.. i beleive his name is Tim but not sure --If anyone knows anything about this guy please let me know so I can go to the next step ..First and last name would be enough..
 
FYI...Up and down play is ok, in and out is what you want to look for. When oil is circulated to the turbo, the up and down play disappears.
 
But as a buyer you expect the seller to stay in contact & work with you No Matter What the problem is big or small. When I see an ad that says Need $$$ Now I stay away! Usually they will let stuff slide do to the financial bind they are in & most times its not good for the buyer. Remeber Buyer Beware!!
Some guys have NO Morals & just dont care when they go to sleep at nite! I would GO NUTS doing that to a car guy & many others would as well but some dont care! Good Luck with it!
I would send it in for inspection & Maybe?? Its not as bad as you think? At least this way you know it 100% proof positive that its fixed & working.
Plus you got it for $700 or less soooo thats Pretty Cheap! Could be worse!!!

I think I know where that turbo came from originally, and I know it was built by Limit Engineering (John Craig). I see you're located in Lorain, OH. so I would give Red Armstrong (440)235-3232 a call and see if he can look at it and give you his thoughts. Red has close ties with John Craig and may be able to help you out if it needs to be repaired.

up and dwon play

kevin b --up and down play it might be ok if is minimal but on this thing if you hold one side of the shaft up it binds up the turbo from spinning how does that sound to you .?ncturbos I appreciate your input and I thought about Red's two cents which are priceless but I am hoping that bttwracing will come to his senses and take this thing back and give me my cash ..

it is funny that you ask as if you have looked at the turbo but it does not have any markings and I beleive that is why it was not used by the previous owner and even the seller before him..Without measuring for certain I can only tell you from what I can see it has at least 10 to 20 thousands play on the shaft up and down ..Just got an email from bttwracing telling me that he does not have the money,he is broke ,credit cards are full and so on and he will take the turbo back but I have to wait for the money for a while ..:mad: how while how long .who knows -- buyers beware ..

Well I Am Here For What Ever Bashing You Want But I Can Tell You I Struggled For A Long Time To Get Rid Of It. I Was Was Told Back Then It Was Rebuilt And I Assure You My Car Has Been Down For A Long Time Since Before I Bought The Turboand Has Not Been Running Before That. I Bought A Stroker Kit ,220-224 Roller Cam Kit From Full Throttle Speed. Since I Bought I Sold All Do To Finances. I Bought Turbo While Back And Paid $800 I Believe. Check My Story If You Feel The Need. Turbo Was Looked At By Many People And Was Known Good. It Sat In My Garage Since I Got It. So If You Wanna Wait Id Love To Get Turbo Back But I Dont Know When I Can Afford To Send You The Money.

No, I have never seen that turbo before...if that's what you are getting at:confused:

I was just merely saying that turbos will have up and down, side to side movement in them. Have it checked out by someone locally who knows turbos.
 
Ok let me introduce myself. I'm bttw's bigger brother. Pajo for you to come in here and calling him a crook and making these accusations is childish. How many turbos have you installed before going that big? I know for a fact my brother never installed the turbo and he also brought it up to me and I checked it out. I've owned 3 TB's and have been involved with these cars since 1988. So in saying that I know what a good and bad turbo is. From what I've seen you've posted about 95% of your posts in cars for sale or parts for sale forums.

You should really read up on the tech forums and get educated. Like Kevin said some up and down play is okay. In and out is bad which I looked at the turbo myself and it had ZERO in and out play. Install the turbo and see what happens...my guess is though you don't have the proper other components to make that turbo work correctly anyway.
 
Looks like your best bet is to have it inspected. It may be ok or not but at least you'ld know if you can use it as is. IMHO I will not buy another used turbo again. Mine was used and I sent it out (good thing) and it was messed up. Ended up spending more than if I just went out and bought new.:rolleyes:
