Bucket seat won't stay up!

Neither of my front bucket seats will stay in the upright position. When you lower the seat back until it touches the rear seat, then move it all the way forward, it will not catch in the upright position. It goes way on past so I am almost lying down when I'm driving. Whats up with this?

Are you also pulling up on the lever? You should hear it clunk when its hits the full up position.

Thanks so much for the reply. I have held the lever up, I have pushed it down, it works just like all others I have seen in my 55 years. But it won't catch and hold the seat up. Neither one. I've lubricated it, no help.

I'm not part of the 'hip hop' crowd so I like to sit up, not lay back when I drive. Suggestions please?

Sounds like the recliners need to be replaced. There are probally lots of good used ones down at the boneyard. They are also used on 3rd gen F-body and 80's vintage J-cars(Cavalier,Skyhawk). Check out this thread from the other place Need help fixing my manual seats - TurboBuicks.com
