i know this isn't a v8 board, but i just finished watching pinks. probably a re-run, but there was a buick 455 against an s-10 truck. 1st night the buick won all 4 right off the bat- agrees to let them get tires and come back the next day for titles, again. next day- pretty much the same. he let off the first pass, told them he did. and just kept winning. did anyone else see this?

I just watched it. I missed the specs on the Buick though. I wasn't sure if it was Buick powered or the typical Bowtie mill. You say 455 Buick, that's SWEET.

72 Gs 455

Yeah it was a good episode. That was a very clean solid GS and it actually had a 455 Buick Powerplant instead of a Cheby...The S10 got one free run because the Buick guy's didn't get the starter in on time for that run. The last run the S10 scattered the the 3rd member. So all the Buick had to do was make a courtesy run.....but like you said the Buick put the smack down, think one run they gave the S10 4 lengths........

I just got speed channel a couple of days ago and just saw that show! That was pretty fun to watch. The GS guy just kept cleaning house on that s10. I was going to be pissed if he couldn't get that thing started again.

i don't know how much that would cost, i guess it would matter how much you got, as to if would be expensive. i've been watching some guys with stage II setups- to me -that's expensive. i know with today's gas prices a 455 would be expensive to operate. i saw that, it was awesome. just kept spanking him. i read a post here about "you might drive/race a buick if..." seeing that on pinks reminded me of that post.

Great episode. It was one of the first episode of this season. It's even better when they have a Buick, because is so rare. They always have the usual suspects (i. e. Mustangs, S10's, etc). There was another episode that was fun to watch in which a Chevelle and the Turbo Supra were going at it... That was good too!

The big block Buick is not real expensive to build if you stay under 600 HP. Between 550 and 600 things get shakey. The problem is the motor was designed to be very light weight with lots of torque and not really expected to turn over 4500 rpm. The other problem is you have to have excellent machine work and be very specific about bearing clearances.

Once you get over 600 hp you need to have the block girdled and use lightweight crank, and pistons. These are not cheap parts.

The guy I often go to the races with won the bracket race a few years ago at the Stanton GM meet with a cracked block. These motors have a bad habit of breaking the main webs.
