It's because you can get 50 chinamen in a LeSabre. That's still less crowded than their public transportation!

It also because they aren't all that keen on buying cars from people that slaughtered them like cattle 60 years ago.

The Chinese people I knew growing up would rather drive a Pacer or Gremlin than a Toyota or Datsun.

Good point. I wish more Americans had better memories.

1/2 hour after driving your Buick you want to do it again. ;)

haha I thought the term "chinamen" had completely fallen out of modern use, so much so that I started using it again for comedic purposes..

You are the first person I've seen use it in years.

What that article fails to mention is that those China built Buicks are way different than the ones we can buy. The sheetmetal is the same more or less but the engines are something else. There is class structure when buying a car. Only the most successfull can buy the top model with the biggest engine which isn't saying much. Their version of the old(97-05) Century, which is called the Shanghai, only uses a 2.0-2.5 liter version of the 60 degree Chevy V-6 and I believe a 3.0 V-6 is the biggest engine you can get in the GL8 van.V-8's are nowhere to be seen. I'm wondering if there is a buck to be made by us Yanks by importing the 3800SC versions there. I hear that government employees are at the top of the class structure there. I bet there are a few politicians that would give their left water chestnut to own one. I also bet the fines for smuggling and speeding are pretty stiff too. To bad I dont speak Chineese. I'd love to be the person who brought horsepower to the billions. After I establish the performance car I would than open up a series of racetracks to race them on(making sounds of old style cash register). I would have printed the catch phrase but than I relized it looked like a racial slur.

too bad they didn't show a picture of the chinese regal, they are pretty cool looking cars. the front end is boxier than ours, and just generally different (much more elegent if you will) and the rear end is just flat out cool. i think it looks a LOT like the new jaguar X-types, especially the tail lights. the interior is really something else too. my gs is nice looking, no doubt about that but the chinese version looks like something we would see in a mercedes. really they have less in common than a firebird has in common with a camaro.

but its still good to see that we are taking someone elses money.

Here are some pictures I have of their Century and minivan. They use the same sheetmetal with some different trim. Dig the amber turn signal on the Century. I actually like the GL8 with the old style grille compared to the new Terraza we have here in the states. You know whats weird. The name plates are all in English. No Chineese characters to be seen.
