Business Venture... Guitar Guys Step In...

I have been laid off for a while now and decided to finally go through with the patent process and bring an idea to life. This business venture took quite a while to get where I am today and I have a long road ahead, but just take a look at what I have done and any feedback is much appreciated.

We are currently making them just for strats. We will be making various different designs,models,ect. when we get enough revenue. The website is pretty much where we are selling at the moment. We will be opening up to wholesale distributers and hopefully can get our foot in the door at the big stores by next year.

Your best bet is to forget a patent and save your money, IF you did spend the dough on a patent then some schmuck will just grab the idea and have it made over in China then you will have to spent more money on Lawyers and what not to shut it down, by that time he has made all the money to be made leaving you with a patent that aint worth the paper its stamped on.

Good example of ripped off stuff is harbor fright inventory.

Take your Idea and set up a dummy, have the product made in china to fit different guitars then spend more money on infomercials and roll the dice

With all due respect, you are right and wrong. They will not copy something unless it has proven its marketability..By that time, My particular business would see a huge profit margain before any of this would even take place... I could, then later,weigh all my options for royalties,sell out, or let them compete. I have many ideas that will be connected to this product that will keep me ahead of the game for sure. This is just the begining.


Thanks for the kind words guys, I does mean a lot when you put your last dime,heart and soul into something from just a thought to reality. And yes, I gave up my Turbo addiction to do this.

So your saying you might be sinking all your time and money into something with no proven market>???

Example on a proven market...please bear with me on this.

Would I take my 50 yr old un restored Les Paul Jr, go to guitarskinz.com or where ever and wrap my body in vinyl?...heck no!!! I dont care how easy they say it comes off...good vinyl dont come off easy period.

Now would I be willing to buy your product, remove a couple of screws and place a complete hugger on my body with no harm done to my original un restored finish?.....You bet I would.

So there is a market, how big? I dont know

All I was saying, as your waiting for a legal (in the USA) sleep easy at night document...
I could have seen your idea,
called up my people,
took it to china,
have vacuum moulds done of multiple body styles,
have the jig set up to run through a printer for lots of ready made background colors, and or custom vinyl after effects,

And made deals with major guitar retail outlet to carry it in stock and had orders shipped out the door long before you open up your mailbox.

I love the idea, I just dont have much faith that patents keep your design secure anymore and we can all thank china for that.

I really have no time to write about this. I guess your opinion on patents is the best way.I thought we could talk about positive experience with patents to get some good info out there, but you say they are usless and a waste of money. Thanks for a big thread downer!

I think the biggest thing is not so much that it is a proved idea but that nothing else like it exists or if it is an upgrade to an existing idea that it actually will improve on the previous work. It costs money that is for sure. I tried to do it myself and before I spent the money on them doing the search I found a website that you can search on.

I think patents are a good idea and people should absolutely seek to get one if they feel good about their idea. Now in regards to stealing the idea, people will try to do that regardless... At least with the patent you have it on paper that it was your idea etc...

Ya, searching is a great idea and can save time and money for future lawyer fees. The attorney will have all access to a database that most people cant get to. He will do an advanced search looking for similar ideas and avoid infringement issues down the road.

Thank you. My V is a 79 Aria Pro II that I bought back in 82 when I was just 14. My first electric. Putting a double locking Jackson Floyd Rose on it now. The Les Paul copy I built back in high school. The Tanara I bought just after we got married. The 2 Deans were "have to have's". The Dean From Hell was the first and the ZX was the next. She can buy those expensive purses so she can't say anything about my guitars. She did have a "problem" with the 6 TB's that I had. Now she is ok with the 87GN since it is the nicest one I have owned so far. There are some other guitars that I want but I will have to wait until I get my hybrid Vega/GN done. heh heh

I still use my old 1983 Bandit 65 that my parents bought me and it still cranks. GREAT sound. Especially from the Deans. The V has Di Marzio pickups and they both have excellent crunch and mids and when on the bridge pickup, they really scream.
