Is a TurboTweak emissions chip all that is needed for an 87' "stocker" to pass Cali smog checks?

This is my first trip to see "The man" and I want to make a good impression the first time around. :)

Any tips or tricks would be appreciated.

Just turn the fuel pressure down a few lbs and install the TT Smog chip...that's all I did and passed with flying colors.

If you have bolt-on goodies, someone who is a visual inspection weanie might bounce you for that....

you might want to go to one of those test and repair shops, and have them take a "look" just tell them you want to see how the car is running before you have to get it smoged. If it has past smog before go back to the same place, I have had pretty good luck with shops i do regular business with, they are more worried about not missing anything on the cars that belong to stangers, new faces:rolleyes: since they never know when they are being "tested"

make sure you have a cat and lower the fuel psi aslo i would install the original air intake ducting if you have it...i have helped a couple guys with their smogs its not dificult try and go where you take your daily drivers to:biggrin: some smog shops get all picky with their visual inspection:biggrin:

Thanks.

The car is stock with the exception of the valve springs, K&N, and FP/HW kit. I'm trying to keep from molesting her...hence the hybrid project in the sig...

Don welded up my header last year, so there shouldn't be any leaks there.

You have nothing to worry about then.
If it's running good, the stock chip is in there and you don't have an Adj FPR, just maybe put the stock airbox back on so you don't have to sweat the visual and go get 'er done.

Correction:

Thanks.

CORRECTION:

There is a TurboTweak Street chip in there....I forgot about that. :(

Most cars that are over 10 years old have to go to a "test only" station in this commie state.

stock chip is good

TT smog chip will help you pass if your car is ill or non stock injectors, but the stock should do just fine.

i used to loan out my stock chip for buddies stock injector cars whenever they needed a smog.
Unfortunately i usually put my car back to stock condition except for the injectors which then i use the TT smog chip.
Last time i was able to convince the inspector the Poston headers are direct replacement as advertized.

all TRs are test only as far as i know.

Turbo buicks, (all as far as I know, but maybe only '86 & '87) have to go to a Test Only smog station because they are, and were classified as such when first licensed, a High Emitting profile, or HPE cars. The exception to this is when a turbo Buick is sold, the smog cert required for the sale / resale can be either a Test Only station, or a Test and Repair smog station. When your first bi-annual comes through, it will be for a Test Only, and then always a Test only until hell freezes over. Just be thankful that they have not passed the rider yet requiring smog every year for cars 15 years or older all the way back to the end of the end of the rolling calendar. This is for Republik of kalifornia cars only, other states may and do vary.

Do yourself a favor. Buy two bottles of HEET andput them into a half tank of gas when you go for the test.
