My 98 GS is completely stock and I am ready to do away with the U bend. I really don't plan on running the car hard but would just like a little more umph. I plan on installing a set of 104 Autolites and larger Taylor wires which I already have. The car already has a drop in K&N. Would like to install a CAI, but due to financial reasons that will have to wait. Does this sound like an ok plan to you or is there any thing else I need to know?

Thanks Man,
Joey:cool:

sorry I didnt see this sooner

u bend delete is good - it eliminates the biggest restriction , you can also replacethe u bend and the resonatorall at once with straight pipe - if the rest of the exhaust is stock the res delete wont make it much louder

104's will be fine with those few mods, 605's would work well too

stock gm wires in good condition are excellent , many very quick cars run them , the taylors are supposed to be decent though and you allready have them...

on a 98 the stock airbox is a POS with a 90* bend , even a cone filter on the tb is an improvement (HAI) hot air intake. the coolant bottle is in the way on 97/98 for most cai's adding to their expense having to buy a 99+ coolant bottle

what I do is make a FWI (fenderwell intake) using a couple feet of 4" intake tubing (zzp $10.50/ ft) and even use the rubber fender block off from the stock intake setup and poke a hole in the tubing for the IAT sensor

if money is super tight you can do what the guys did for a few members at the national regal meet and cut up a gatorade bottle and put a cone filter on it to get closer to the cool fender air

another option is home depot intake with 4" thinwall pvc 22* elbow ,rubber insert roof flashing to seal off filter in fenderwell , attach to tb with 3 to 4" rubber pvc adaptor

then there is the rubbermaid trash can CAI option - cut to fit with cone filter inside , wrap with reflectix later or one of those reflective windshield sun reflectors

cliff notes: many ways to make a cheap effective intake , keep bends slight ,tubing large , try to get filter into ambient areas

DIY Cold Air Intake

Got a rubber intake off a Regal at the junk yard. Couple of feet of hose and a filter. Strap the PCM to the coolant bottle. You will notice an immediate improvement in throttle response and quickness.

you left out sound

Yes, the sound is great under boost!! When first starting it cold, it sounds like a chain saw for a few minutes.

Here's where my 9 inch K&N filter ended up. It was a real pain to do it this way. If I was to do it over, I would just get a 7 inch filter and mount it horizontally, straight in the fender well off the intake hose.
