Can the cam sensor cap if it is cracked cause the check engine light to flash but not stay on? Im getting a CEL but im not showing a code on my scanmaster or code reader but when I rev at the top of the rev and when the rpms come down or if I hit a bump, the CEL will flash and Im running out of ideas. but I noticed that my cam sensor cap had a small crack in it, could this cause that problem..?
Thanks,
Isaac

Flashing ce light usually means the chip has a bad connection. Pull the chip check for corrosion. Use a safety pin or sewing needle to pry up the pins in the chip socket.

Good Luck!

but also just in case I wanted to replace the cam sensor cap do I have to redo the timing on the cam sensor itself just to replace the cap just thought I would ask.
Thnaks

You could just replace the cap, but you don't have no write up on your sig. and it might need to replace the whole cam sensor
What year?
What mileage?
Original cam sensor?

It's an 85 with 19,784 on it cam sensor original low miles I know, the car was parked up since the 80s

Ran good afterwards but need to know more about the car mine also had other factors that were making it run like crap..

I pretty much built mine from nothing I know a lil bit about these cars now and I have a couple of buddies that own one also mines is an 85 hot air I might intercool soon only because I have the intercooler sitting in my garage might as well use it

After changing the cs sensor cap car ran nearly perfect I have other stuff to go through but doing this helped a lot

Yup I got it I'm always doing homework on these cars I built mine using only the online diagrams from a short block to know a hard running GN

Shotgunning the cap without actually setting it only works if you make two assUmptions. One is that it was set right when you pulled the old cap, and two is that the replacement cap does high (or low) at the exact same spot as the old cap.

Since it runs better, you're probably OK.. If you run into a weird running condition down the road, don't automatically assUme the cam sensor timing is dead nuts.
