Cam sensor out of adjustment??

I set my cam sensor this weekend using Casper's tool. I put the engine on top dead and then rotated it 25 more degrees and plugged in the tool and i noticed the light on the tool was on. I turned the cam sensor clockwise to make the light go off(maybe 1/8 of a turn) and then I set the cam sensor per the instructions. How was this affecting the performance of my engine? It seems to run a lot better now(more power, smoother) but is it just in my head or is it true? Thanks!

There has long been a discussion on this subject. Some believe that a longer cam may require a slightly different setting.

Lawrence Conley has long professed to believe that slight adjustments of the sensor can affect performance.

I usually set mine about an 1/8" ccw past the normal point and believe that it can affect performance so I am not surprised that adjusting it might change the way it seems to run.

I keep asking here, but nobody seems to know the answer. By adjusting the cam sensor, just exactly what are you changing

Roughly speaking, crank sensor controls spark; cam sensor controls injector pulse timing. The cam sensor operates in a window that has a small range in it's 360° of rotation. It sees a magnetic pickup and completes a circuit as it passes through it's window, allowing the injector to pulse. There might be a miniscule difference depending on when the sensor sees the magnetic pickup as related to injector pulse timing. I've gotten mine out of whack enough by playing with it that it rich knocked bad (too far ccw) once I got it reset back to the window. My thought is that either you are in the window or not. If it's running well as you say, I'd leave it alone and move onto bigger and better things. Tom Chou has a long dissertation on gnttype; might give that a read also.
