My GN has been with this mechanic Mitch who is a great guy and he's been helping me fix her up but he was to charge me 1,200 for a new cam shaft. That includes the parts and labor. I would do it myself but I have litterally no time and prom is in two weeks. I feel like that's alot of money...am I gettin ripped off or not? Any help?

Is that at a shop or on the side at his house? That sounds reasonable. It's alot of work. Especially on a hot air car.
Well let's see here. Remove intake, valve covers, timing cover, all associated parts to get there, and if he was smart, oil pan, that's a lot to take off. Not including the parts involved. The parts by themselves wouldn't be that bad but there's a lot of labor involved in taking everything apart, cleaning it properly, and then putting it back together right. It's not an SBC with a 4 barrel after all.
That is true but it's at a shop but he runs it with just one other guy. He just called me and said he noticed low oil pressure at idle and he said I should over haul it. Anyone looking to sell me an 84 hot air 231 for a reasonable price? I need the car running good by may 20th...
