I'm looking looking into buying a 9X11 converter with a 3000 or so stall. Either my tranny or converter right now is having problems flaring at the top of gears sometimes. Acts like it goes into neutral momentarily then shifts normal (doesn't feel like it's slipping the gears).

My question is, if I put that converter in and the tranny is bad, can that bad tranny hurt that new converter? If the converter is bad, then problem solved.

I'm no expert, but I have always been told that a bad tranny will send contaminants into the converter and the rest of the system. Matter of fact, when replacing a bad tranny, most trans shops will not warranty unless you replace the converter and flush the cooling lines too.

Of course, you may get lucky and nothing bad happen at all. Do you feel lucky?
