I am looking into possibly running this bumper on my GN powered Malibu wagon I'm building.I would need to mod the bumper for a stock location intercooler air flow opening and scoop extension. I had thoughts of modding a stock Malibu grill and using it to fill the bumper hole but I am having trouble visualizing how it would look.

Can anyone help with a photoshop of it?

I would like to see the highlighted sections of the grill placed into the bottom of the bumper both ways if possible one opening compared to the dual openings.

If the car can be turned into bright white without much hassle that would be helpful as well but not necessary.

Thanks in advance for the help, the last thing I want to do is buy the bumper and cut it up and hate the way it looks. The bumper is expensive!

No not yet. If I go with this idea of having the stock style grills in the valance I know I do not like the single cutout look. I have some time to figure it out but as of now I am not sure yet may go a completely different direction.

Did you get anything figured out for your car?

Ed, I am kinda in the same boat. I have think if I go with that front bumper (OLDS), I would do 2 cutouts, this way it sort of matches the split grill and ram air scoops. But I would have black mesh recessed back a few inches like the grills.

Its defiantly the best out there appearance wise for our cars. Being made functional would be an added bonus, just have to get the right look figured out before I pull the trigger. I was thinking of glassing a recess into it as well after cutting out the holes to push the grill back an inch or two to make it less in subtle.

Ed, I agree. And that is the same exactly thing I was think about. I think it would look better than just an opening cut out. Maybe have a center cutout for the SLIC, and 2 smaller ones on either side, for like the power steering cooler and a trans cooler. Something I had thought about.

I wonder how the split one would look w gnx vents. May not matter but the split is the way to go. I like when theres break up..

psycho6cyl - I would not be able to get enough air to the inter cooler through GNX vents. The bottom valance is huge 4" on that bumper.

I think I have it figured out. If I cut the bumper straight along the bottom from one corner to the other it improves the look allot as the car is square everywhere else. I can then cut the center open and make some walls inside there just like GN air dams have to divert the air to the IC. This also helps as I do not have to build an air duct.

I'm going to reach out to the bumper manufacture and see if they will run a one off for me rather then hacking one up and modding it myself.

Please excuse the poor editing in microsoft paint its the best I can do. I do not have nor do I know how to use photoshop. If anyone is up for editing it better in photoshop that would be great.

Ed, I think that would look good on your car, especially since you have a turbo bump hood, and not a giant cowl hood.

I think that's it to. I looked at pictures of the car, a GN, and there bumper as is last night for hours. After thinking and tinkering around with ideas I think this is what I need to do.

Huge difference then the old boring look

I will likely paint my headlight bezels like this also to break up the black in the grill area

I do think it would look good like that. For my Olds header and Ram Air, I am digging the dual openings.
Ed, that bottom one is a 78/9, so you are seeing the header panel that is white. What kinda car was that? An el camino? My 78 SS had the stripes just like that (I painted them on).

Its a Malibu found it on google, I wonder if I can use my 80 grill on a 79 header panel then?

Ah, ok.

The 78-9 header panel are the same, and I believe the 80-1 are the same, then to 82-7 (4headlight). I had a 78,9,80,81 and 83. The bezels and grill are different and won't work on the 78-9 header panel.

I used to have a header panel in the 78-9 vintage, just had to give it to my brother, he got crashed into. I may be able to get another.

So the 80 grill will not work on a 78-9 then.

I suppose I could paint my bezels to the look of that 79 I pictured above. I like the 80 grill better, I do not care for the 78-9 grill at all.

That is correct. The 78-9 header is recessed a bit where the headlight bezels are mounted. The 80-81 header is flat, and the grill and bezels have the same profile.

Here is a different angle of a 78-9, you can see what I mean.

Then here is an 80-81 style (81 grill, 80 has vertical bars).

I see now. sucks I like the 79 bezels better but I hate that grill.

Yeah, that egg crate grill is a love it or hate it. I prefer the 78-9 header and grill over the 80-80. You may be able to modify a 78-9 grill with some flat bar verticals, since you are blacking it out, you wouldn't have to worry about chrome plating on the plastic.
