It came out of an 85 gn but i don't know if its a gn trans. the casting # is 306-2t83ogi61

its suposed to be a gn 2004r trans.. its rebuilt (with reciepts) and has an art carr shift kit in it (is that good?). Is 250 $ too much to pay for it? _

you guys are the experts so any help you can give will be appreciated

Casting# wont tell you jack. You will need the numbers off the tag on the passengerside tailshaft housing.
Another number would be the VIN# stamped into the case above the pan rail on the driverside.

The OG would be the code and that breaks down to a trans originally installed behind a non performace Oldsmobile 307. Definitely not a Turbo Buick Trans.
Here is a chart of some of the more popular codes:
TH-200-R4 ID's:
ID Year(s) Application
KZF Olds 442/Hurst
CZF 85-88 Monte SS
CRF 85-88 LG4 305 powered Monte Carlos/Pont Gr Prix
BRF 86-87 GN/T-Type/Turbo Regals
BQ 84-85 GN/T-Type/Turbo Regals
BR 83 Model T-Types
TAF 89 Turbo Trans Am
OZ Hurst Olds
OM Olds 350 Diesels
OG lds 307

AA and AP Cadillac's

trans

thanks for the info i was wondering though, are these tranny;'s worth a ****?? is it worth 250$ i have a gn trans in my car now but it needs to be rebuilt soon. Will this get me by for now.. it is remanufactured and it does have a shift kit in it. if i use my stall converter will it worK?? sorry for all the dumb questions, i'm new to gn's

All of the 84-up TH2004r's are mechanically the same. If you are inclined and you know for sure the $250 one you just bought is truly good, then you can swap the BRF valve body, governor and servo into it and use it that way.
But generally speaking, a used non performance TH2004r might be worth something to someone with maybe a fullsize wagon with a 307 or something similar, but not in the Turbo Buick community.
