can i use "any" chip with the powerlogger?

ive been advised to start over on my tune.so if i put the chip in my car and turn boost down, alky off.basically run it the way it was when it ran 12.57.i want to log some files to see what the advance and fueling was at,that tune.then put my 6.1 chip in and start tuning from their.
