I have a buddy putting a fast on his mustang and he is wondering if MAF can still be used. Im almost positive no is the answer, but just wanted to be sure.

Thanks

FAST uses Speed Density or Alpha N mode. MAF is not in the equation.

But with the way these guys are, somebody will find a way to wire the thing in there.:)

whats the advantage of alpha N mode, or when is it used over speed density?

No MAF capability. This is a speed/density system so there's no input for a MAF sensor.

Alpha-N is used mainly on n/a motors with lots of duration and very little or no manifold vacuum. It is based strictly on throttle position and RPM. The motor has to be pretty ratty before you need to go to Alpha-N. If you have a blower or turbo, though, you HAVE to run speed/density mode. Boosted cars can see varying boost at steady throttle positions so manifold pressure has to be taken into account.

Try that on a 600 inch big block with 300+ degrees of duration at .050", a sheet metal tunnel ram and 5000+ CFM worth of throttle body and you'll be switching to Alpha-N mode soon enough. :D
