how an item up for sale on Ebay has 1 bidder with no retractions, yet it says the starting bid was $5000. and is now at $8803??

What am I missing? (No, it ain't mine).

This is because it has a reserve on it. The first bidder was willing to pay $8803 but still not enough to cover the reserve.
