What is the difference? My original MAF went out and I am not looking back. I have 3" pipes from air filter to turbo and was going to go with the Translator/Impala SS MAF. Is the Translator Gen 2 worth the extra coin? Do I need a 3 bar MAP sensor? Wideband? An adapter wire/plug?
It looks like I don't use a MAF with this????
All street driven with the usual basic mods. Looking to run fast safely and still be a family cruiser.
I need to make a decision to jump on Full Throttle's sale:smile:

The GEN II lets you configure all kinds of stuff. Don't need a wideband, don't need a 3 bar map. Do get the casper's plug n play harness and the LT1 to Buick adapter plug too- makes install of the GEN II easy. You also need the specific extender chip to take advantage of the WOT settings the GEN II can provide. I have the GEN II with LT1 maf, but with a TT chip, so I set the idle/mid throttle settings with the GEN II but then have to set the WOT settings using the TT chip techinque- the WOT settings won't work on the TT chip via the GEN II configuration. My 80# injectors idle like a stocker with the GEN II. However, fwiw, I'm going to go a speed density setup in the future.

Your best bet would be the original translator, the chip made for it, extender type, and a 3" MAF would be the easiest to couple, but the 3.5" is probably easier to get and there's simple silicone adapters at Full Throttle for it.

I have both types.

Going to get the Extender Extreme G chip for my GEN II and store the TT chip I am using now.

T+ original box has been working well for over 10 years too, and is simpler to use similar installation required for both.

I still use the 3.5" LS1 MAF with the GEN II.

The GEN II was probably designed with more cars in mind easier to program and work with software wise, and allows for more cruise fueling in various rpm ranges etc.

Never had a need to adjust any of that with the original translator however. :p

The Gen 2 unit will give you much better contorl of the fuel, Allow you to adjust timing across the rpm band (when used with our Extreme G chip) and aloow you to optionally connect a wideband to use wideband tracking. WHat this means is you can set an air fuel ratio for WOT in the Gen 2 and if you car is lean it will add fuel automaticlly or if ti is rich it will take it away.
