Trans. 2004r it has 6500 miles sence rebuild. Changes great , went down the st. came home saw it leaking from dust cover . Pulled dust cover and it's hitting the converter and spinning the fluid off like a windmill. I took trans out took it to a well know trans guy I have used many times . He said he did not SEE anything wrong but he checked the return hole it's been drilled and bushing was not pushed out over the hole he cleaned the hole and put a new bushing and front seal in it. The converter is a 3000 mile ( new when I put it in) ptc2800 . I put the trans back in last night and still leaking. ????????? What do u think??

Hi Jack, a leak from that area when running(under working pressure) can be tricky sometimes, I have seen converter necks with hairline cracks in the pump cutouts, and pinholes from weld at the base of neck, using brakeclean and compressed air to clean and dry the area, spray leak detector(baby powder type) up into pump area, then start looking for the wet spots, Good luck.

Kevin.

drain back drilled bigger

Check front of pump where drain back is--the drill bit could have come through when being drilled out. Had it happen to me once. Small and hard to see. You can see the boss from the front of pump and it runs @ an angle.

I think you should call PTC and ask them about their units they sell. Also ask them if they have had any other people calling them about leaks. My converter had less than two hundred miles and was a leaker. Around $200 bucks and shipping they will replace the leaking hub with a better designed hub. So much for buying the best.

Yeh I know right. What about all the fun pulling the trany , one time in & out thinking seal, now one time in & out for the PTC TC. Labor / trany fluid. Let's see $400.00 labor $50.00 fluid and all that down time what's that worth? I have had a lot of tc in my life never ever had on leak like this, yeh so much for buying the best. Oh yeh they said IF it was the tc all I had to do was pay for shipping , that's nice of them uh?

It was the new tc . Installed stock tc and it is not leaking. I went to Richard Clarks and he went over my trans very good. We also put some air on the ptc tc and no leaks were found but when we installed the ptc tc it would pour tranny fluid??? So we put the stock tc in and no leaks. I am going to send the ptc back but I don't want that same tc I would like a new tc, hopefully Dusty will help me with this.

I went thru this last year and mine was the cooler in the radiator was plugging at the right times and would spit fluid out from the converter cover. I flowed that thing at least 4 times and the last time is when I found the blockage. It spewed my flush all over my garage when it built up pressure. It was backing up and coming out of the seal. Mine was a freshly built Vigilante and I was told the same thing that if it was the converter, I would only pay shipping. I eliminated my radiator cooler and only used an external cooler and my leak was gone since then.

I have never had tc do that crap, but guess what I got one now. Anyway we put the old stock tc in and it stoped it. But u know what the worst thing was pulling that tranny in & out 4 times , 4gal of fluid and at least 16hr of WORK for nothing. I hope PTC will help me out with a NEW tc !!

There have been several cases of leaking converters. The most common cause with the 200r's is the hub that goes inside the pump cracking from unknown reasons. Checking back, all the converters for the 200r's use the same pieces so it's not just the 10" converters. The jury is still out on what causes these issues. Most seem to crack from where the slots are machined into the hub. So why do some crack while the majority do not???? I wish I knew. Without being able to test the line pressure feeding the converter it's just a guessing game. It is specific to the 200r and is well known around the converter industry.

A few other converters have been sent in for pin hole leaks either around the halves of the converter or where the hub welds to the front. One specific was the anti-baloon plate was thin in one area of the weld and the crack originated from that area. Again, this only seems to be a problem with the 200r's for whatever reason.

I will do what I can to help those unfortunate enough to have this issue.

I just had a PTC convertor with no weld around the crank snout and it was "windmilling" fluid.

FWIW.....Mine would only sling fluid in gear when the TC is PSI'd

They (Dusty and PTC) sent me another and made it right.

Haha, mine has been doing this for years but it never leaked enough for me to care... nothing a piece of well placed cardboard under my car couldnt fix :) it'll get fixed when i decide to go faster!
