I was going down the on-ramp to I-80, accelerated and built 7-8# of boost and the car just died immediately. No sputter or anything...just died. Pulled over, put it in park, cranked but no start. Didn't even act like it wanted to fire. Towed it home. Fuel pump is new and I can hear it running. All fuses are good. Could it be the crank sensor?? Coil pack or module?? Any ideas??

Crank sensor or open the cam sensor & the ring on top is probably moving around as the nut is loose or key stripped. RJC has a rebuild kit if the cam sensor. Most likely 2 places to start.

Sudden death like that is probably the crank sensor.

car died no restart

hi
that happened to me it was the cranck sensor.
i think caspers still have a few left for hot airs.
wish you the best harold.

Anyone know how the crank sensor is supposed to be positioned?? Do the two aluminum fins straddle the metal disk on the balancer?? or is it just the little plastic part of the sensor that straddles the disc??

I have a spare at home I'll check it out tonight and try to explain what it looks like. I know when mine was running stupid it was an out of adjustment crank sensor causing the issue.

I would concur, a stalling like that, and everything else seeming to check out, would make me think crank sensor. Mine gave me fits when it was on it's way out (and before I knew of a website such as this). Good Luck!

Ok got a new crank sensor from Prasad (WickedV6). Installed it, and guess what: IT STARTED!!:D :D Now I think it's time for me to quit flying blind and pony up the dough for a scantool.;) The car didn't quite run 100% on the test drive. It idled quite low and even died on me once at a stop light. It started up right away though. It also seemed to cut out during acceleration too. Cold start-up is kinda rough...I have to give it some gas pedal to get it going, and after that it has a surging idle. You guys have any other ideas??

Thanks for the input and the phone call Jerryl!!:D

Are you sure you've it install correctly? It sounds like it might be contacting the interrupter ring.

That is what happened the first time. Evidently I had never set it, OR tightened the retaining screw!! Hence the strange noise while it was running....And ultimately the sudden death on the on-ramp to I-80!! This time I set it according to the advise I got from Jerryl, and the GM service manual.

No problem, anytime!
Was it running rough before?

Yeah it was. the cold start was there before. the idle was unusally high before...now it seems too low. I didn't have the cutting out problem before though.
