OK, the GN has been on daily driving duty for the last 3 weeks. Shes ran fine, no problems at all until today. Coming back from lunch I pull up behind this ditz in a lexus SUV. She wasn't turning right when there were no cars coming, so I honked the horn, damn that thing is loud, bout scared me to death. Within seconds of honking, the car died. I tried starting it, and it was a no go. Nothing seemed to be wrong, so I unpluged the orange wire, plugged it back in and she fired right up, and I drove the rest of the way to work. What would cause this? I have a modified ECM (55# injectors, and a thumbwheel chip if that helps any.

Hit your Horn again and see if it quits:D

Could be a sign of a module going bad but you wont know unless it starts doing it consistently. Hopefully it doesnt happen anymore

Gotta love those mid eighties horns:D . Mine rocks too

I'm afraid to use the horn again. You'll get shot down here if you use it in the wrong place!!! I've owned this car for 4 years, and I don't think I ever used the horn. I litterally jumped out of my seat when I hit that thing. The car is a freaking land barge with a horn to match! ;)

man talk about it! my horn never worked till a few weeks ago when i turned my wheel sharply and it worked. i honked it for at least 5 minutes b/c it sounded cool and i new i would never hear it again. now it doesnt work. any idea what my horn problem is?

Well, I pulled into my driveway, honked the horn and within 3 seconds the car died! What would cause this?

when I put a T-type wheel in my Regal, i found that the little white piece that the horn and spring hook into was broken. worked for a while, but then came out and grounded itself to the horn button itself...wouldn't shut off as I was driving down a busy NY highway :D . I had to pull into a parking lot and turn the car off and remove the horn assembly. I second that opinion on loud GM horns!

I had horn problems on my Elco. The horn wiring runs through a long plug attached to the steering column. I can't find the wire color on gnttype but you could source it down by pulling the horn cap and checking for continuity from the horn wire to the plug. Then test continuity through the plug to the relay. I believe the horn gets it's power from a fusible link at the starter. Could be wrong, but perhaps it's weak and is removing power from the ECM since you were able to reset the ECM. The ECM does get power from a fusible link. I'd lean toward this; it's definitely something to find very soon.

One of the drawbacks of high mileage, it has probably finally rubbed through on something. I think John has you on the right track

That's it, I'm never honking my horn again. :D

How's it going Brad. Long Time. Hope you get that problem fixed. Me and Alex are looking at Oct. 4th for the next Moroso night. Hope you can make it and hope you get that horn problem fixed.

Later.

High milage?!?! I've only got 206,000 miles on it. :)

TJ, I may try to make it up there. I've decided I'm going to make a bonzi pass before the year is over. 30 lbs of boost, slicks, c116 etc. and see what this thing can actually do. I don't know if I'll be ready for that by the 4th, but its been a few months since I've taken it down the 1/4, so I need to get up there and run it.

The real fun starts when the foam insulation inbetween the two contact plates which make the horn go off when you hit it deteriorates... and then just honks randomly and stays on ..and on... no matter how much you hit the horn button in a vain attempt to stop it.. it keeps blairing.. until you disconnect the battery, take the horn button apart and permanently "fix" it.. :o :o :D

Ahhh man thats got to suck.....open up the hood and paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa..right in your ear!

Brad, 30 psi on a TE-54 will definatly get you in the 120 mph range (if it doesn't then nothing ever will). Better start thinking about a roll cage. Come on, you got 3 weeks to get ready. I know you can do it....unless your still not done with your tunes  .

Better have Orlando there when you do it, maybe he can give you some special Velcro to help hold the heads on:cool:
