I just had the same problem. Car would crank but would not start and if it did it was only for a second then it died. I had spark because it would start with starting fluid. I also had some fuel pressure but not much. I have had the car parked since last November so I felt that maybe my fuel pump was getting weak. So I bought a Walbro 340M and a hotwire kit. I drained the tank and dropped it. What I found was not nice. The gas in there turned to varnish and had plugged up the sock on the end of the fuel pump. I was getting fuel when I jumped the fuel pump to drain it but not enough pressure to start the car. Drained the rest of the gas in the tank and put in the new pump and new gas. Started right up after a couple of cranks.
God I hope that this is what's wrong. Bad thing is,is that I have a walbro 340 that is still somewhat new. But if the gas is bad and tank is gumbed up like yours was That would prb ruin the pump too.
What is the easiest way to drain the gas?
Got the tank out~! I did it the old fashioned way and siphoned it out. It was pretty clean looking..a few small rocks in it so I hhave them out and the pump looks good. I'm replacing the rubber lines and replaced the filter. Wednesday I'm putting it back together and going to fill it up with the best gas I can get and see if it starts.
just wanted to say good luck on that, i'm having some issues of my own and am relying on this board to help. got alot of good info, just need to find out exactly what the real deal is and what's it going to costs.
