Temp gauge shows 200 when it used to always show 180. The fans come on for a brief time to maintain it at 200 then shut off. Now if I turn on the A/C the fans come on until it gets to 180, then fans shut off. Does it sound like the setting in the chip somehow got changed? Last week I replaced the 25 amp high speed relay with a 30 amp relay because the 25 amp relay kept blowing. Now I have this temperature issue. Are these problems related? When I removed the wire to the temperature sensor it got up to 210, reconnected the wire and the fans came on and it came back to 200. The water pump was replaced about a week ago. Could it be faulty? Any ideas? Thanks!

You sure the temp sensor/doisplay is accurate? Cooling system clean? Does it get hot while city driving or highway? I doubt the water pump would be bad.

It is in city. haven't been on the highway as I don't trust it. I'm pretty sure the gauge is accurate as it moves from 200 down to 180 when fans stay on high with A/C on. I misplaced the cord to my scan tool.

Sounds like the gauge reading is off. Find the cord to the scan tool and see whats up.

Could it be the radiator cap? Mechanic had the cap off when he replaced the front cover/water pump. Maybe now it isn't sealing properly? Went for a 40 mile hwy drive. Temp was 180 on the hwy but as soon as I got off it went up to 210-220.

Replaced the radiator cap and no difference. Still can't find cord for scan tool, but I'm still confused as to why the A/C can turn on the fans and reduce the temperature, but the ECM can't leave the fans on long enough to reduce the temp. As soon as the gauge reads 200 the fans shut off. Could it be the thermostat? Also, went for a drive and now turbo doesn't spool. Visual check of hoses doesn't show any blew off. They are all zip tied. Are there any fuses I could check, like for the boost solenoid? Could the solenoid be bad? If it were, would that cause higher boost? I have a smoke machine-which hoses should I check? I also think my oil pressure is low. Gauge is reading 20 at 65-70 mph (2k rpm). I put a stiffer spring in oil pump housing and no difference. Is the motor taking a dump or are all my gauges going bad at once?

Will try another chip and see if that makes the fan turn on sooner. Seems to me when the old thermostat was sticking closed a couple years ago, the water temp got too hot and the oil pressure dropped. Does that sound logical, for the oil to get hot, thin out and pressure to drop?

I don't see how changing a relay would cause the chip to change. Do the fans run together or is one the high and other low?

Both fans come on when high is called for. One fan comes on when low is called for. I don't know what was causing the relay to fail but the 30 amp seems to be ok.

What chip are you running & what temperature thermostat?

You should be running a 160 degree T'stat, especially if you are running a Turbo Tweak chip. The TT chip turns the fans on earlier than the OEM settings.

Good luck

Chip is from Full Throttle. Tstat is either 180 or 190 but I think it is 180. I like the heater to blow warm in the winter time! I have a Turbo Tweek chip that I will try to see if it makes any difference.

The stat wouldn't have a be turning off the fans. All I can think of is try the chip and see where it's set to come on/off.

I put in the turbo tweek chip and the fans turned on about 190 and then shut off after a couple minutes. Temp never got over 200. Fans came on a couple times. So it appears to be the chip. Then I put back in the Full Throttle chip and the car wouldn't start, like it had the anti theft feature turned on ( it did not have anti theft). Anyway i sent it back to Full throttle and we will see what is up with it.
