Car sputters/engine light with DS

Just tried my "good as new" Directscan I purchased off the board and when the cable is plugged into the ECM the car sputters and the check engine light comes on. The ECM has had a friends DS on it before so I know its not the way I modified it. Bad cable? TIA!

You're not plugging the cables in while the car is running are you??

No, I disconnected the ECM power, plugged in the cable and ran it up through the back of the glovebox per the directions and started the car. It sputtered and the check engine light was on, I shut it off, disconnecteed the cable and reset the ECM, ran fine. Im going to try and borrow someone elses DS and see what happens.

Cable on too far, not far enough? I know they can be pretty stubborn.

Well, borrowed a friends DS and its the hardware interface module. Great, more time and money wasted on someone elses junk. I should know better than to buy used. Thanks for the suggestions.

Make sure you're not pushing the cable too far onto the ECM!! That will cause LOTS of problems.

mine went bad and chu fixed it for a very reasonable fee. call or email him and he will help you out.

Chu has it now, if it needs a new board it will be $75.
