I had just had a Casper's knock gauge installed and i drove the car today for 2 hours, i had the knock sensor show me 1 green light after 2 berns not seing anything , then 10-15 minutes later then another bern i starter from a stop some wheel spin stayed in it then seen 1 amber let off then 20 minutes did another bern for 10 seconds or so no lights at all. finally 30-mins or so later from a stop i did a bern and got a 1 red light backed off it and put it away. the alky was flowing all times. i even put it up to 7 from six earlier on to see if i could remedy the 1 green light from coming on... what do you guys think ?

Confused...are you saying the lights keep increasing but not go out? if so send it back. Had the same issue. Not a fan of knock gauges. Prefer the alarm. My 2 cents.

Honestly...the visual knock gauge is a PITA. Just use a scanmaster for knock. I cant count how many times I launched my car and the dam thing lit up red and scarred the hell outta me!!!!....Lots of times it's false knock.....

they would always go out after 4-5 seconds but only 1 led would light. so i would get 1 green led when there are 3, never more than 1 would led would light. then no lights at all then 1 yellow led and there are 4 of them, shouldn't i get 3 green with 1 yellow lit? or when i got 1 red should all lite up to the red 3 green and the 4 yellow? i just seen 1 red lid light up...

Your best advice will be from the horse's mouth, call the guys at Casper, they know more about their product than anyone else and are happy to help. I have one of their gauges and it took me a trip to the track to get it completely figured out. On the street I would get some of the same knock lights that you are getting (different number of LED's under similar conditions) so to see if I had real knock or not I went to the local track, put in a half tank of 110 fuel and ran a few passes. I ran WOT 4 passes with NO LED's coming on. Since then Ive ran that fuel out and refilled with 93 pump gas and guess what, I have knock once again. I was glad to figure out that the knock I had is octane related and not something else and now I'm pretty confident that the knock sensor is working as described.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of boost were you running when the knock happened using 93. Reason asking, I'm going to be using the same octane and wanted to know a ball park boost level.

Thanks,

I can run 18lbs of boost. Problem is, as you witnessed, is that knock happens at different boost levels depending on several factors. Sometimes (on 93) I would get knock at the 1-2 shift, 2-3 shift or none until it started to wind out in third gear. On 110, I got NO knock at any time. At least this eliminated any "false knock" so I know any time I have knock it is real and is caused by low octane fuel. Next time to the track I will increase boost 1 lb at a time until any sign of knock returns, hoping to get to about 22lbs. I did not use my track time to get best times, just to determine rather or not octane was my issue. Hope this helps.
