If I have the champion intake w/stock TB plenum, would it make sense to get a RJC power plate? Would it matter if I went to ported plenum/tb?

I was initially under the impression that I wouldn't need the plate w/ the champ intake....

Best to check with Race Jace. The power plates are specifically matched to the intake/plenum combo, and he may not have done one for the Champion intake. Whether it needs one or not is another question, to be answered by somebody with some EGT measurements, and/or a flow bench.

In my discussions with Jason the power plate isn't affected by different intakes...the power plate is dependent on the plenum being used...I had a stock intake on my old motor using a 70MM precision plenum with power plate...on the new motor I have a Champion ported intake with same plenum and PP...still runs great...as for not needing the PP with the ported intake I don't believe that's true...there's an inate problem with these motors in that the design causes the back 2 cyls to run leaner than the other 4...Jason's PP addresses that problem...don't think a ported intake does...IMO

As critical as those little holes are I cannot believe that a completly different intake does not need at least some change in the plate. CALLING JASON.......
Mike

Let us know what you find out because if I should be using a modified PP for my ported intake I'd like to know...I did see Jason does have a specific PP/spacer for the BGC intake but no mention of stock intakes...ported or not

I forgot about the BGC spacer. Jason told me that had to be made thicker because of the manifold which only make my opinion even stronger that it will take some tweaks for the Champion lower
Mike

Maybe I'm confused here but are we talking about a stock intake ported by Champion or the new intake from Champion...if it's the new one then forget what I've said...I forgot they have a new intake...I'm using a stock one ported by Champion...

More confusing/confusion! The picture that jjkv posted, of the new intake, had a new plenum, too. But the original question concerned a Champion intake with a "stock TB plenum"- Still think Jason is the man to answer this, but some clafication of the question would help the rest of us.

New Champion Intake

The one that is pictured is the "New Champion Intake" . New design. Power Plate not available yet.

Champion also sells the "stock" intake that has been CNCed and will accept different plenums (stock, PTE, Accufab, etc.). Power Plate is available for the PTE, Accufab, stock.

Has anyone heard from Jason lately?...I've emailed him a couple of times in the last few weeks and no replies back...

this guy is right not avaible yet talked to RJC at the nats...

We do not have a power plate for the champion intake, yet.

We do have a power plate for a stock intake ported by champion.

It is the shape of the plenum that affects how and where the air is going. The ported lower only affects how much air is going to pass through everything and the volume of air does not change the distribution.

does this make sense?

Ok Jason guess I'm confused again...you said you have a plate for a stock ported intake(Champion)...in my case I also have a Precision plenum so do I need a plate specific to the plenum/intake or is the plate the same one I would use with a stock unported intake and Precision plenum?

Stock intake + Precision plenum = Precision plate

Ported stock intake + Precision plenum = Precision plate

stock intake ported by champion + Precision plenum = precision plate

New Champion intake + precision or stock or any = not yet available

Hope that helps.

yes just like above, you match the plenum with the plate.

Hey Jason...

I'm running the plate for the Precision 70mm plenum and I have a ported stock intake from Champion...am I ok or is there another revision on the plate specifically for a ported stock intake? the way I understood your last comment, I should be safe because it's the plenum not the intake that affects the airflow...which makes sense

The plates are designed for the STOCK INTAKE wether its port by me, champion, billy bob, paint blue, green, purple, has my name in ink on it, or been to the moon and back. If it is the NEW INTAKE MADE BY CHAMPION a plate is not yet available no matter what dog house you have.

As long as the plate is correct for the dog house and on a stock intake you are fine.

any more questions

The Champion intake accepts the BGC plenum. With this line of thought, could you use the BGC power plate on the new Champion intake with a BGC upper?

Using the plate on this intake would be better than nothing but if i remember right when I glanced at yours at this years nationals there was a shelf in the back of the lower intake that would affect things slightly. I need to get one of those intakes and see what We can do with it. I hope there is not much to change and a simple plate like the stock plates will work. This way it is a very cost effective way to achieve even flow.
