Champion Irons - Viton or teflon valve stem seals?

Had teflon on mine and after about 15 thousand miles I have some slight smoking on occasion. Exhaust valve guides have wear, would viton be a better choice?

Use Viton and don't look back. Of course they will not fix what has already happened.

What were you running for clearance? (Valve stem to guide that is)

Being too tight can cause galling and guide wear.

Both Viton and Teflon seals will dry up your guides which makes guide wear issues even worse. Getting good clearance allows a bit more oil down the guide for lubrication.

You want SOME oil in the guides especially on the exhaust side, but not enough that you see smoke. Too much oil in the combustion chamber will cause detonation and oil deposits.

Not sure what the clearances were when they were set up. Only put about 15,000 miles on them when I started getting intermittent blue smoke at idle, sometimes a puff or two, other times like a mosquito fogger! Turbo checked out fine. Had the same issue with stock heads at around 35,000 miles and changed them out with the Champions which were done over by a reputable source. No smoking with the Champions for almost 9 years or so.

Had the exhaust on 6 fail with Teflon for some reason
Replaced with comp cams viton
Would go viton

Looking at the pictures of these FelPro seals, They look like the original type seal.
